To anyone looking in, Danielle Nicole Marcello's life was one to be envious of. On the outside she had two loving parents that were able to keep a steady income and keep their two kids in a nice home. There seemed to be nothing wrong.
They were very wrong, in fact it would be a long, hard, and exhausting task to try to get them to understand the truth. The Marcello household was one of many secrets. All of which were hidden from everyone but their eldest child. She wasn't supposed to figure anything out, but with a daughter that was full of joy and excitement, it was almost impossible to keep things a secret for very long. Eventually there were things found in the house during multiple games of hide and seek, and that forced her to completely abandon her childhood personality.

Danielle reached beside her laptop to check the time on her phone. 5:42 a.m. She has been awake for the entire night catching up with summer reading for her AP English class. She paused the background music from her computer and shut it down. School started at 8 a.m and she needed at least an hour to make sure her 10 year old brother, Finn was ready for school before she herself needed to get to the high school.
Slowly sliding off the bed with a small grunt, Dani stretched her limbs that had been stuck in the same spot for hours on end before walking over to her window to open the curtain. She quickly put a hand up to her shade her eyes from the sunlight that began to pour into her well-decorated room. She quietly opened her door as to not wake up her parents that didn't go into work until 9 a.m. Taking small steps, she reached the bathroom that was next door to her room.
She closed and locked the door before starting her usual morning routine. Peeing, washing her face, and brushing her teeth. Finishing in 10 minutes, Dani walked out the bathroom to Finn's room, carefully opening it and walking over to his bed where he lay sleeping peacefully on his side with the stuffed elephant she had bought him a few years back hugged to his chest. Gently, she peeled back part of the blanket that covered his face and rubbed his shoulder.
