THE FIVE GIRLS had arrange to go in the woods. They were all walking in a line, it looked almost as if they were following Quinn.
"Whose idea was this again?" Hanna asked, sweat beads forming patterns on her forehead.
"Emily's mom." Spencer said. Emily sighed, "The shed was me. My mom just said we should do something for us."
"Well, couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna asked rhetorically.
Quinn stifled a laugh, "They're not mosquitoes, Hanna, they're gnats."
"Whatever! They're small and annoying, and they're flying up my nose." Hanna flung her hands about, wafting away all the bugs flying around.
"Well, they're attracted to your perfume. And your hair product. And your lip gloss." Spencer joked. Quinn laughed lightly, she stopped when Hanna gave her a look.
"So, what are you saying, I attract flies?" Hanna moved her head forward slightly, proving she was asking a question.
Aria shook her head, "Gnats." The girls continued to walk, stopping in their tracks when they reached a tree. "Why do I feel like this is the wrong way?" Emily asked.
"No, this is it. I remember that tree. It's the halfway point. There's 136 steps left to the shed." Spencer responded. Quinn furrowed her brows, "How do you remember how many steps there are?"
"Have you been out here since... Alison?" Emily tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear, Spencer looked at her, "Me? No. No way."
"But you remember that tree." Aria pointed towards the massive tree that shot up so high you couldn't see the top of it.
"You guys, it's not that weird. I mean, we came out here in eighth grade like, every day... even after." Hanna shrugged. They continued to walk, Spencer speaking up, "I think this is totally the wrong place to do this. Whatever you call it.. shrine."
Emily hit her hands on her legs, showing she was getting annoyed, "It's not a shrine. It's just a place to remember Alison. What's wrong with that?"
"I mean, doing it way out here makes it look like we have something to hide." Quinn pointed out,
Emily raised her brows. "Quinn Parker is worried about what other people think?"
Quinn scoffed, "Well, aren't you? Do you really want to give that creepy Detective more reasons to question us?"
Emily then changed the subject, "Hanna, why are you so quiet?"
Hanna looked back at her friends, "I'm trying to keep the bugs in my nose and out of my mouth."
"You're allowed to have an opinion on this." Emily nodded.
Hanna stopped in her tracks, spinning around, "You want my opinion? I say we hold off and not remember her 'til we know for sure she's not still here."
