With so much transpiring in the last few minutes, Andy had taken a risk and glanced at Sage, who was still blinking at the door, still processing what had happened, and he couldn't fault her for it. Not when he only had half the story.
"I guess I'll hold off my question until tonight..." Andy grumbled, and Sage had turned back to him in confusion, yet again.
"What question?" She asked, and Andy could only sigh, shaking his head as he hadn't believed a single word of what the she-wolf had said, not since bursting into his office unannounced was making Maeve look any better.
But was there any truth to it all?"Did she think she was going to become your Luna?"
"I don't know. She tries to get close and I stop her. Other females in Black Crescent are together, and I think she wants power. I don't want a Luna." She instated, but Andy had caught something more from the conversation. Sage had discussed the options with her former Beta.
"But you'll be mine?" He was filled with questions, ones that Sage did not know how to answer.A small huff escaped her before she knew what to say, and that is when she turned to face him properly. "I don't know. After today's trip, maybe I have an answer. But I miss my mate and pups. I cannot stay, Andy."
"No, I know that. Everyone here knows that, but what if—What if your mate isn't alive? Did you think about that?"
"What?" The question had fallen out of her lips before she fully registered his question.
If her mate is dead? What would that have to do with becoming his Luna?
"Look, what I'm asking isn't wrong. It's progression, hun. Many wolves find someone else after losing a mate. Usually, they pair up with those who've lost a mate too."
"But you don't lose mate, and I don't know if mate still alive." This was a nasty case of going back and forth, and it certainly made her anxious to leave, so she hurried along and found her footing off toward the door. That was all Sage could handle for the conversation, not liking the direction it was taking...So she forgot completely about Andy joining her as she could signal for Holly to join her, as the witch was waiting regardless, and perhaps ask a Nymph along the way.
She could make the trip without him.
Yet Andy couldn't take the risk of Sage leaving without a proper explanation.
"If your mate is dead—" She didn't give him the courtesy of finishing that sentence as she whipped her head around.
"Careful...You might be Alpha-male, but I don't like you talking about my male." Her firing gaze was a warning. He wouldn't put it past her to manage to collapse the whole building.Sage was not just a wolf anymore, not with her secret out in the open. Witches could cause mass destruction, if not worse. He'd met a few in his lifetime, and all of them were ready to cause a riot with a simple twitch of their finger.
"If they're not alive anymore...I'll father your pups, Sage. Your pups deserve a father." Clearly, she hadn't thought about that, so she huffed.
"I have siblings and my dad to help me, Andy...You have a female somewhere. You find them." She said with clearcut conviction, but he shook his head."Sage...How old do you think I am?" That was a strange question, and it caused her eyes to widen in thought. He was certainly older, but her father and Papa Leo were about fifty to sixty-something.
"More than thirty?" It was a rather dark chuckle to escape his lips as he couldn't deny that she was right. "I'm thirty-four, I have no heirs to my name, and I've never gotten a whiff of a mate. You're the first she-wolf who's awakened my beast in at least a decade, and I don't mean for you to just take the title of Luna, Sage. I want you." Her eyes went wide once more. She couldn't believe the words coming from his mouth. Where did this come from?
