A/N:
For @poseidon-cabin3, cause he/she was the only one who voted for my story at this point.
Other than someone who doesn't want to be mentioned.
So, let the story commence!
-Natalie's POV-
I sifted through what we had to do today. The rehearsal was today, and I wasn't participating. I had written it, created almost the whole thing, and I wasn't planning to take anything else on my shoulders today.
I stifled a yawn behind my hand. I set the third book in the Sands of Sadness series, Miles to Go for Anything, on the floor. I closed my eyes and leaned back into the pillow, too tired to care about Teos, Sairih, and Salela. Who cared if they died in the sandstorm?
I tried to go to sleep, but Nick was practicing DJing. (Is that even a thing?) The noise blasted through the wall. I groaned, and pulled the pillow over my head.
The Christmas Break special class was canceled, because of what happened to Lynn, Miss Andrews' sister. She and her twin Carrie were in...whatever it was. Carrie had survived.
I had learned something about Ciara's family, and how she died. Nola died at age 26, married to some king. Daithi took over the kingdom at 20, and married the princess of Cyrr, which no longer exists. He died three years later in combat. Aengos was murdered at 18. Ciara was murdered the day before her seventeenth birthday, but get this-she was murdered by her brother's lover. Knife to the heart.
I gave up trying to sleep. Nick was making too much noise. I picked up my book again.
"And the world swirled around him, shifting and spinning and tossing the grainy sand in his eyes until he closed them, and even then. His grip on Sairih's hand loosened. He tried to shout her name, but the wretched, all-consuming sand poured into his mouth. He spit out the stuff in frustration.
He heard Salela scream something, and howl in pain. He risked opening his eyes. She was inches from his face. A dagger protruded from her shoulder. Hilt deep.
Sairih tightened her grip. He clutched her hand like a lifeline.
It was her he would do anything for. Anything.
Even get locked in a box for hours on end.
It was he who feared small spaces."
I closed the book, rubbing my temples in an attempt to stave off a headache. Nick changed the music.
I knew this song.
"I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to showAnd the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from aboveBut if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settled around usAnd the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from aboveBut if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
