MISHTI’S POINT OF VIEW:-
I was not out of shock that yet another person I loved… was Dead.
I was not out of shock that he was also a…. Cruel man.
Now, I hear he gave his entire portfolio of ten million rupees worth to me.
But why? I don’t deserve it.
No way did he leave me his entire wealth when he had a family.
“Where you -” I stop Abir’s elder sister.
“Please, I was no slut. I wasn’t whoring. I..”
“You got me wrong. I mean where you really his dearest daughter. I thought… Never mind.”
“I am an orphan. I knew he sponsored my studies and that’s all.” I yell, trying to calm myself. “Why does it mean that his wealth is for me?” I ask.
“There’s a lot to go over.” I hear the lawyer say. .
“Then you better get started because some of us have places to go. Like work. We are not all gold diggers.” Abir stands and begins to pace.
“Normally a portfolio can’t be just transferred like that. You know the wealth tax and then all the taxes it comes up with. After death it is even a tough process. Thus, the money has always been in Mishti’s name. Mr. Rajvansh started this account years ago. It’s been accruing money and interest over the years.”
“What are you talking about?”
Finally, something comes out of my mouth a little strong. It flies out. Abir, whose eyes have never left mine, studies me harder. I refuse to wilt under the intensity of his gaze. I tip my chin up, hoping my message is delivered.
I DON’T NEED THE MONEYYYY…
“Why would he do that?” Abir’s younger sister questions.
“To protect the money from us, Ketki.”
He spits it out like I’m beneath him. If I were any less secure in myself, the words would claw at me. As it is, I find my fingers curling inward, nails pinching the sensitive flesh of my palms. Now, Abir takes two steps closer to me and says, “You were also nothing to him.” He’s turning aggressive. “And if you think he gave a shit about you, you’re wrong. Whatever promises he gave you are lies.” This time, he stares at me straight. Eye to eye. Steps even closer. Feet to feet. Steals my freaking breath with the bloodthirst leaping out of him. “He didn’t give a shit about anyone. Only himself. You are nothing. You are no one.”
“Abir calm down.” His mom emits.
“There’s some more, Abir.” The lawyer says.
I stop him, “I don’t want that wealth. I can transfer it to his family. Can you go ahead with those procedures.”
“In one word, then you have to sell your three branches of Mera as well. Because the top investor of that company is you.”
Starting from scrap can not be hard for me.
“It’s fine. I don’t give a damn about it. Let it go. I don’t want this awful person’s money.” I take a breath before saying, “Even if he was really good to me.”
Abir takes my hand in his again, “Listen, no one is forcing you to-”
I stop him, “I am not a gold digger.”
“May I proceed?” The lawyer looks at us.
“Yes, go ahead.” Abir stands beside me.
“This house… Is in Abir Rajvansh and Mishti Rajvansh name. So to claim it you should get married.”
“BULLSHIT,” I utter.
“You both get the letter.” He hands it to us.
“ Not only was my dad a lying prick who had real money, but he set it up so even if we found the account, we wouldn’t be able to touch it.” Abir emits with a stern tone. “He has no right to decide my marriage with some -”
I complete it for him, “Random woman”
“Mishti.”“I’ll hand over this house and that damn millions to your family. Don’t worry.” I declare.
“I don’t want your hard work, Mishti. You can have your company to yourself.”
This time Ryan speaks, “I suggest you both get married and transfer the respected wealth to each other smoothly. Then divorce in six months.” He speaks very casually. “Abir, it will also boost your debut movie promotions.”
“Ryan, marriage is no joke.” Abir’s mom tells.
“Then let’s say Merger.” I forward my hand.
“A political marriage then.” Abir takes my hand and comes a bit closer to my ears, “I’m very good at intimidation. I’m also quite good at other things.”
What was that?
