Minha Ali
***********I didn't sleep whole night because my so-called grandparents informed me about my marriage with their grandson. My grandfather's words are echoing in my head telling me that I have only one month time, to accept the proposal of their grandson.
If I don't agree to this they will tell me that I should be greatful for the opportunity for becoming the daughter in law of Khan Haveli, which I think it's not a greatful opportunity but a suicide attempt to enter that house again after ten years.
The thought of becoming the daughter in law of that house is terrifying, and I don't know how to handle this. I feel trapped in my house because they can barge in anytime here.
I want to go far away from here, where no one can find me and start a new life. I want to find peace and freedom in a place where I can live as I wish for not as my grandparents want.
I'm still in my bed thinking about the marriage thing, I stretch my hands, sit on the bed, and gaze at the wall clock it's six in the morning. I sighed as I got up and moved towards the window.
I stood their staring out of the window in the morning. The sun was just beginning to rise and the sky was beautiful shade of pink and orange. I felt a sense of peace watch the world wake up. The simple stillness of that moment filled me with gratitude, as I took the moment to appreciate the beauty of the world around me that often go unnoticed.
Allah ka shukar hai ke usne mujhe itna haseen din dikhaya.
A small smile appeared on my face looking at the rising sun. I wish ke mera din bhi iss sun rise ki tarah khoobsurat ho.
I step away from the window, walk over to my cabinet, grab a pair of plain pink salwar kameez, and headed into the bathroom for a warm shower.
I took a shower and blow-dried my hair. And went downstairs and saw nanu and naniammi sitting on the chairs and having chai.
"Assalamualaikum!" I greet them with a smile on my face.
"Aaj jaldi uth gayi meri beti", nanu said sipping his chai and nani ammi agreed with him by nodding her head.
"Yeah, I couldn't sleep whole night", I said looking at them.
They merely smiled at me, and they understood why I was unable to get any sleep.
"Chai piyogi ammu" nani ammi asked sipping chai. I nod in response, I love chai, iam a big chai lover.
She was getting up"nani ammi aap bait jae main bana lungi khud ke liye chai", I said and entered the kitchen.
I took a small pateli, filled it with water and placed it on the stove. I then added the chai patti to the water, boiled it for a minute, added milk, swirled it for a short while with a tea spoon, added sugar, turned off the heat and strained it into a cup.
Poori duniya ek taraf or chai ek taraf.
Sipping chai, I move over to sit next to nanu and nani ammi. Ammi and mishi are seated as well, although ammi was on the phone.
"Ammu", aur chai h?", mishi asked yawning.
"Haan, hai na", I said and gazed at ammi who was looking at me.
I followed Mishi after she got up from the couch and entered the kitchen to find out who ammi was speaking with on the phone.
"Mishi, ammi kis se phone par baat kr rhi h?", I asked her giving the cup from the cup hooks.
"I don't know", she said straining the chai.
I nod at her sipping my chai, "Don't you have to go to university today?", Mishi questioned, glancing at me.
"I'm not interested in going today, and please don't go to work also, instead, let's go to the park together", I said with puppy eyes.
She just narrowed her eyes at me, I give her a nervous smile, I don't feel like going to university today.
"Let me just call the school and let them know that, I'm not coming today", she says giving me a smile. I put the cup on the counter and pecked her cheek, ran outside the kitchen in the direction of room.
"Ammu", I hear ammi calling me, my steps came to an halt, I turn to face her and see her ending the call and keeping the mobile beside her.
"Tumhe kuch log aaj dekhne aa rhe h taiyaar rehna", she says and glance behind me to see mishi coming towards us.
Uhhhh, not this again?
"Well, I'm not interested, mujhe gudiya ban kr unke saamne nhi baitna", I replied and ran upstairs to my room and hear footsteps behind me, so I just locked my room.
"Minha, open the door", she said banging on my door. I just shrug off her words and banging on the door.
I approach my bedside table and grab my phone from there. I put on my headphones and start listening to "Life goes on" by BTS; any song of theirs helps me to relax.
