Chapter 10: Control
20 December 2014
Alexis
I sat in the coffee shop, looking out at the snow-covered streets. It had snowed twice since the meeting with the Devil May Cry team and the brethren. It had gotten rough in the house with Sages return. We never usually spent that much time together as a group or that cooped up. Sage and I had gone rounds yesterday morning and I had locked myself in the attic to relax. With Nero playing babysitter, it had been much easier to keep Sage calm. She had been flirting with him nearly nonstop, talking in low whispers and giggling.I had gotten up before anyone else this morning and snuck out. Being cooped up had never sat well with me and I needed fresh air. Vergil had gone on a job the morning after the meeting, and I missed him. I sipped my coffee as I watched the people around me. The bell jingled over the shop door, and I looked up, meeting the worried blue eyes of the half demon himself. Worry turned to anger as he strode to my booth and took a seat. I gave him a slightly amused look as I soaked in the warmth of the cup.
"Looks like you found me." I said softly.
Vergil's lip curled in a silent growl. I had seen him calm and cold before. But the stillness and the rage in his eyes was something even I was slightly scared of. I took a final sip of my coffee and shrugged my jacket back on, doing up the large buttons and slipping my scarf over my head. I slipped out of the booth, hands in my pockets as I walked out. Vergil followed like a shadow, so close I could feel his breath on my hair. As I went to cross the street to head home, a hand gripped my wrists and tugged me the other way.
Vergil's iron grip made me walk a little faster to keep up with him. His free hand pulled his phone out of his pocket, and he placed a call. I wasn't able to hear much as we walked quickly, making out the words 'she's safe' as he pulled me along. The Devil May Cry building came into view as we rounded another corner. He tugged me inside, shutting the door behind us. I gasped as my back hit the door hard and a hand pressed to my throat. Vergil's icy blue eyes were locked to mine.
"Let. Me. Go." I said in a firm, hushed tone.
"You... You do not get to speak. Not when I received a phone call this morning that you were missing, and I had to rush back here to find you." He snarled, the pressure on my throat tightening enough to make me whimper.
"Please. Let me go and we can talk." I said as my left hand gripped his wrist.
Vergil dropped his hand, turning away from me. I rubbed my neck a bit as I stepped into the office space. Vergil was visibly angry in a way I had never seen before, and I didn't know what to expect from him. He sighed, running a hand through his hair as he turned to face me. His eyes were still raging but his neutral mask had returned. I moved to sit on the edge of his desk, crossing my legs and my arms.
"I needed to get out of that house, or I was going to kill my sister." I said, voice full of sass.
"You left without escort. You know we all agreed that none of you should be left alone. Do you want to end up like Noelle, in a puddle of your own blood? Because none of us are skilled enough to save you."
"Don't you dare scold me like a child. Why in the hell do you even care?"
"Because you are mine." He snarled, approaching me, and gripping my chin between his index finger and thumb. "I told you before, little brat. You are mine. I will not let you get hurt because you are foolish enough to sneak out alone when I am two hours out of the city."
