Percy walked into the Hermes Cabin alongside Mr. Brunner, the cabin bustling with activity.
"Hey everybody! This is Percy Jackson—please take care of him," Mr. Brunner announced, his voice carrying over the chatter as all eyes turned toward Percy.
Percy felt a mix of curiosity and anxiety wash over him. Among the sea of campers, a girl named Mary waved enthusiastically. "Hi, Percy!" she called out, but Mr. Brunner's attention was directed at Luke, who stood confidently at the front.
Once outside, Percy trailed behind Luke's group, glancing around at the strange, yet inviting environment of Camp Half-Blood. Just as he started to feel a bit more comfortable, someone collided into him from the side.
"Hey!" Percy yelled, stumbling slightly.
The girl who bumped him, Clarisse, shot him a glare before shoving him down to the ground.
"You don't have to push him," Mary interjected, tilting her head to the side, her voice steady as she stepped forward.
"Clarisse, stop," Luke said firmly, trying to diffuse the situation.
Mary's boldness intrigued Percy, and he found himself drawn to her. But Clarisse wasn't backing down.
"So this is the kid who killed the Minotaur," she sneered, folding her arms across her chest.
Percy felt the heat rise to his cheeks. "Yeah, well, I didn't fake it," he replied defiantly.
"If you want attention, you better be ready for it," Clarisse said, taking a step closer, a wicked smile creeping across her face.
Mary bumped into Clarisse, standing her ground.
Percy couldn't help but smirk. "She seems nice," he muttered sarcastically.
"You know Clarisse doesn't mess with me," Luke said, his tone matter-of-fact.
"Why?" Percy asked, genuinely curious.
"My glory," Luke replied with a smirk.
"So if I get glory, she'll leave me alone, and everyone will think I'm a big deal?" Percy asked, trying to make sense of it all.
"Kinda," Luke said, looking amused.
"And then my dad has no choice but to claim me," Percy mused, his determination growing.
"Where do we start?" he asked, eager to dive into the world around him.
The group made their way to the Archery Range. Percy watched as Mary expertly took aim with a bow, squinting her eyes and letting the arrow fly. It hit the bullseye, and she cheered, a bright smile lighting up her face.
Percy took his turn, but when he released his arrow, it went wildly off course, nearly hitting a group of campers who ducked just in time.
"Can I try again?" Percy asked, a sheepish grin on his face.
"No!" the group shouted in unison, clearly not impressed.
After a few more activities, the bell rang, signaling lunchtime. Percy joined the campers at the mess hall, feeling a bit more at home amidst the laughter and chatter.
Later that night, Percy woke up, restless and uneasy. He quietly made his way to the bathroom, still trying to shake off the lingering tension of the day.
As he opened the door, he was met with the sight of Clarisse and her friends. "Just tell everybody that you faked killing the Minotaur," Clarisse taunted, stepping forward with a menacing glint in her eyes.
"I didn't fake anything!" Percy protested, but before he could say more, they lunged at him, attempting to dunk his head in the toilet.
Suddenly, a flush echoed through the room, and water burst through the door, knocking everyone back.
