The Wolf

The trail leads me to a clearing where somebody built a teepee out of fallen branches and a firepit out of rocks. I know Indians don't live back here so it must have been some other teenagers whose moms actually let them do fun stuff. Well, that's not completely true. My mom does let me take the car almost whenever I want and explore downtown as long as I pay for it and I'm back by eight. But now I know every inch of town---the seed bombed empty lot, the best Mexican place that's definitely a front for more drug dealers than have ever been in these woods, everything you could think of about town I already know.  I want to explore somewhere else and see a bit of danger.

I can't hear my house anymore, but I think I'm fine. I didn't take any turns on the train except for the one left turn that went to the abandoned shack.

How did I know about the shack if I'm not allowed in the woods? Well, I used to be allowed to go and play in there as a child. Then I told my parents about the shack I saw and said that I wanted to go in it. It would be a secret clubhouse or something. Then both my parents got bad looks on their faces and told me I wasn't allowed to go in the woods anymore. I know now not to tell them anything shady that happens on my adventures.

The woods are getting darker and my night vision doesn't work as well since the moonlight is getting filtered out by all the trees over my head. My ears twitch. I hear something breathing; I can't tell how close it is. It's probably a deer or a fox. I don't worry. If a fox tries to eat me I'll climb a tree or scratch it's eyes out. It's not like bears or wolves live around here, so I go deeper into the woods confidently.

Suddenly, the breathing sound gets must louder, and in front of me I see a cave. It's very dark in the front, but in the back it seems to very faintly. I wonder if that's because there are baby fireflies in there. I also wonder if the breathing is coming from a deer and if she has a baby. I've never seen a fawn before and I really want to. So, I go inside to take a look.

I come face to face with a wolf. It's icy blue eyes look into mine and it snarls. I take a step back, but the wolf corners me and blocks off my escape out the cave. Is it going to eat me?
