PRE READING NOTES:

Into the Dark follows the main quest line of the Hogwarts Legacy video game's main character, known as Ginny Ginger in this story, and their companion, Sebastian Sallow. Written with my favorite tropes heavily in mind, a morally grey, possessive, and protective Sebastian will become obsessed with our main character and do anything to make her his.

While the story will explain some of the videogame's story along with some of the character's backstories, major changes to both will be made. I'm letting my mind take me in whatever direction it chooses for each chapter while still working to keep a mildly cohesive story. Even still, there will be spoilersAdditionally, while I understand in the Hogwarts universe, fifth-years are roughly 15/16 years old, I have decided, for my own sanity, that fifth-years will age up to 18.

Chapter 1 Notes:

I listened to Jungle by Petit Biscuit when working on this chapter. I feel like it set the mood for our brooding male MC. If you want to give it a listen:

Chapter 1 (Sebastian)

The air was warm and the chatter that hummed through the hall was comforting. It always was the first night before classes began. I sat in The Great Hall with all my housemates as candles floated above us. The silky Slytherin table runner stretched the length of the dining table and was covered in beautiful and delicious-smelling foods. Everything about this moment was comforting-- putting my senses entirely at ease. It was a rare feeling-- and one I was trying to cherish.

Ominis and I chuckled as the last of the first-year students was sorted into their house. Everyone wants to be a Slytherin, we are the best house after all, but some are less than graceful when they fail to make the cut. This last first-year practically had to be dragged to the Gryffindor table screaming and kicking when he didn't land the dream house.

Okay-- he wasn't kicking and screaming-- but he should have been. Who wants to be a Gryffindor?

I made small talk with the other fifth-years but mainly kept conversation between myself and Ominis. We talked about everything from our holiday, to our goals for the new year, to spells we wanted to practice casting in the Undercroft.

Ominis Gaunt and I have been fast friends since we started at Hogwarts. Together with my sister, Anne, we discovered the Undercroft, a secret room in the Defense Against the Dark Arts tower. We spent hours playing games there and now used the space for practicing spells. Throughout the years, we learned everything there is to know about each other. Having been friends for years, Ominis now knows everything about me. The best, the good, the bad, the worst. For being blind he's annoyingly observant.

The evening was coming to a close and I was eager for Headmaster Black to shoo everyone off so I could make my way down to the library. It is imperative that I find a cure for my sister, Anne, and something in that blasted restricted section will tell me what that cure is. Anne had to forego school this year due to the pain her curse inflicts daily. To hell with detentions if it meant that I could put an end to her suffering. It has been the only thing I've cared about or focused on since the day that repulsive goblin cursed her.

Focusing more and more on the time I was wasting, I stood up, ready to sneak out before we were dismissed.

"Sebastian..." Ominis chided as I stood.
