Chapter 2 Notes:
I listened to Paper Planes by M.I.A. and Bloodline by Natalie Jane while I was working on this chapter! If you want to give either song a listen:

Chapter 2:
I breathed in deeply. Warm fall air filled my lungs. It was no longer raining, but the smell of wet earth still lingered. Opening my eyes, I took in the city. I felt the cobblestones under my shoes. Lantern light seeped through the darkness, casting reflections on window panes and puddles alike. I didn't go out after dark often. It was the only time the city fell silent, aside from flags flapping in the wind and the occasional bird squawking. I allowed myself to enjoy my final moments here. I wouldn't be back until Spring.
"It appears we are almost ready to depart!" Eleazar Fig announced as the last of our belongings was secured to the back of the carriage.
The Hogwarts professor stepped out from behind the carriage. He was a skinny man of average height. Signs of age showed on his face and his well-manicured hair was a shiny silver. He wore a blue robe with gold trim and a shimmering scarf laid over his shoulders. Eleazar Fig had been sent to help me catch up to the other fifth-years I would be joining at school this year. While other students had been practicing and honing their magic skills for years now, I had only recently found out I was a witch. With Eleazar's help, I was able to catch up on lessons I would have learned years earlier. Perhaps I would fit in amongst my classmates and hopefully, avoid humiliation.
As we spoke, a man apparated to my left. I took in the man's appearance, trying my best to not appear shocked, . He was a well-kept man with a bit of weight on his gut. He had dark brownish-black hair and wore a brown leather coat, a red bow tie showed around his shirt collar, and a pair of iron spectacles lay on his nose. Unfazed, Professor Fig immediately began chatting with him. I learned that this man was George Osric from The Ministry of Magic. Fig had invited him to join us on our journey to Hogwarts so they could catch up on some "business matters". Before their conversation got too far along, we were ushered into the carriage. We wanted to be on time to the Sorting Ceremony after all. With one slap of the reins, we were thrust into the sky and on our way to Hogwarts.
None of us noticed the dark figure step out from the alleyway as we began our journey.
The ride through the clouds was smooth and if George had not been present, I would have been tempted to lean out the window and let my imagination convince me that I was a bird soaring through the air— carefree— not a trouble in the world.
Looking back, perhaps it was better I didn't.
What started as a regular chat between acquaintances soon turned into a serious conversation regarding a Goblin rebellion led by "Ranrok". Soon, Mr. Osric pulled out a package that Eleazar's late wife, Miriam, had sent to him just before her death. With the mention of Miriam, it seemed as though the world became darker at that moment. The clouds turned gray, and Professor Fig's face fell flat— I even thought I saw a dark figure lurking in the distance.
Turning my gaze to the package that Mr. Osric pulled out, I became confused. It was a pretty container of sorts— it almost looked like a scroll. It was made of gold and laid with a green marble. Perhaps the oddest feature though— was the golden symbol embossed on the tube and the blue glow that radiated from it. I had never seen anything like it before and found myself entirely mesmerized.
I listened to Eleazar and Osric as they continued to discuss this object of interest. Apparently, Mr. Osric could not open the item indicating that a very powerful magic had sealed it and Eleazar remarked that it appeared to be made of goblin metal. Neither party mentioned the blue glow swirling around it.
