By morning time, I remembered what Y/n had said about wearing a suit, so I did, I grabbed one of my nicest suits in the closet. It was a simple red tux with a black tie. I always hated dress shoes, and I know Y/n would like me to be comfortable as well, so I slipped on my cleanest pair of black converse instead. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I felt a small ounce of confidence fill up inside me, a smile pulling at the corners of my lips as I saw my little babies sleeping in their beds. I gave them a few pets, making sure their food bowl was filled before I grabbed my keys and phone, making my way out the door.
Pulling along the sidewalk of the cafe, I noticed my boss sitting in window view at a booth, she looked really cute so concentrated. These thoughts I have of her shouldn't be happening, but I couldn't help it. When I look at her, that's all I can see. She's gorgeous. I shook my head, getting myself out of my head as I lock my car, entering the cafe. When the bell went off, Y/n's head snapped up in my direction, her eyes piercing into mine as she waved her hand, signaling me to take a seat across from her.
"You look nice, Ms. Steinfeld." She complimented, her eyes grazing over my shoulders and chest for a moment. I felt proud of myself, I did look nice today and I felt very confident in it.
"Thank you, Ms- I mean, Y/n." I cut myself off with an awkward chuckle, remembering to call her by her first name. Y/n glanced up, smiling slightly to reassure me as she waved her hand in the air, pushing it aside. I watched as one of the cafe works approached us, setting down to mugs of coffee in front of us, as well as a blueberry muffin for her, a chocolate chip muffin for me. "Uh, ma'am? Can I ask what we're doing here?" I questioned, work started at 9, the building would be open in about an hour, so why were we at a cafe?
I grabbed my muffin, feeling the warm of it in my hands as I took a bite out of it, humming contently to myself. Y/n looked at me, setting the book down she had in her hands, on the table. "Well, Hailee, you're my new assistant. I just want you to know you're aware of the impossible tasks I'll ask of you."
"Nothing is impossible." I grumble out with a bit of my muffin in my mouth. I politely held up a hand, swallowing the last bit of my food before looking at her. "I'm prepared, ma'am." Y/n seemed interested and impressed with me, she tapped her index finger against the table, the rhythmic tapping catching my attention as she stated out the window.
"Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different." Y/n spoke up, breaking the silence, her words ringing in my head as we made eye contact. "C.S Lewis. A great quote that awoke something in me." I reflected on her words, the words that constantly replayed in my head was 'different'. I couldn't explain why, but it was there, everywhere. Maybe it's because I am different, or maybe my head is just weird. I was alone with my thoughts, no one could hear them but me, and it seemed like Y/n was in the same predicament as she reflected on her own quote.
I won't lie, it was a deep quote. It feels as if time doesn't pass, but when you look back, it's a major epiphany. Sometimes, it's better to live in the moment rather than noticing how much you are slipping away from the past, it's almost like a distraction.
I was brought out of my trance, feeling a warm hand cup my jaw. I looked up, seeing Y/n staring at me with a raised brow, it wasn't an annoyed expression on her face, it was more of one of interest, as to why I was so lost in thought. But I ignored her silent question, her hand slipping away from jaw, I already missed her warmth.
"Do you understand the quote?" She soon asked, my eyes looking into hers as I couldn't pull away from them, they were like two big magnets, attracting me in, I didn't even hear the sound of the loud coffee maker coming from the kitchen of the cafe. I didn't hear anything anymore, actually, her eyes lured me in, like a trap. An enchanting one at that. "Hailee." Y/n snapped her fingers in front of my face, making me blink as I look around for a moment, avoiding her y/e/c irises that searched for mine. "Are you alright, sweetheart?"
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. I'm sorry, I'm all good." I clear my throat, ignoring the way I stuttered out those words, the effect she had on me was strong, I'd do anything for her. But she doesn't know that. Not yet, at least. I watched as Y/n continued to look at me curiously before standing up, tossing the wrapper of her muffin away. I followed her lead, leaving our mugs there for the workers to clean. Y/n pulled out her wallet, leaving a fine tip of $20 for them.
We existed the cafe, Y/n approaching me as I stepped towards my car. "Being assistant means you get a better parking spot. So, follow my car and I'll show you." She directed, me nodding to every word of her sentence as she walked to her own car, I heard it start, and soon enough, I was following her into the parking lot of the building we worked at.
It was a reserved spot just for me, right next to hers, it was a private spot, hidden away from prying eyes of others. It was also in a quiet environment, which made me happy as I pulled into the spot. I was quick to get out of my car, following Y/n as she approached the elevator, pressing the button and holding it open for me. We walked in together, it was a silent evaluator ride, but it was a comfortable silence, I wasn't awkward about it, I was even humming quietly to myself, bouncing on my feet as well. I did that when I was bored.
"Before we start, could you pick up the papers form the copy room please? They should be in a file labeled 'Venus'." I nodded my head at Y/n's words, we departed ways as I made my way to the copy room. I pushed the door open, searching the metal drawers, pushing files forward as I searched for the V section. I finally spotted 'Venus' and grabbed it, making my way back to my boss.
