"I'm taking the mission."

"Awesome." Shikamaru said in a nonchalant tone, walking away from the girl.

"Bro." Y/n grabbed his wrist forcing him to turn towards her. "Why are you acting like this?"

"Whatchu' mean? Go ahead and willing put yourself in danger—I'm rooting for you." The boy said sarcastically.

"Shikamaru. You know how feel I about this. Those ninjas killed my brother. You want me to just stand by and do nothing?! Never that."

"I understand that Y/n but you're not thinking! You don't think sometimes, you just rush into stupid situations."  Shikamaru said letting some of his frustration out. "You're a chunin-level ninja going up against Anbu level ninja. Do you really think that's a smart idea Y/n??"

The girl just looked at him with a hurt and angered expression. "Move." She said pushing past the boy and making her way to the front door.

Shikamaru instantly regretted the words that came out of his mouth.

"Wait Y/n. I'm sorry, I didn't-"

"Nah it's all good. You said what you said."  She said grabbing her bags ready to leave this whole situation. "Nice to know you're not confident in my skills but it's cool. You not the one going on the mission so you don't gotta worry."

Shikamaru slightly jerked back at her comment.

"So you just think I'm finna be all happy that you're risking your life like this? There's a chance I might not see you again and I'm just supposed to be cool with that? You never even told me about this mission, I found out through Tsunade."

"Cause I knew this was how you were gonna act!" Y/n said finally turning around to face Shikamaru. "Being a ninja means you have to take risks— you know that! Just because you think I'm weak and pathetic doesn't mean you get to pick and choose which missions I'm allowed to do!"

"I don't think that Y/n-"

"Well, it sure does seem like you do."

Shikamaru sighs and rubs his hand across his face. " I just don't...wanna lose someone I love again...if I lose you, I don't know what I'll do." He lifts his head up and slowly walks toward the girl. "I love you too much. Way too much to let you blindly run into a dangerous situation. I don't doubt your skills—I know how strong you are but we have so little information about these guys. Can you just wait a little? I promise we'll avenge your brother but I can not and will not allow you to get killed."

He looked deeply into her eyes. A pleading expression rested on his face as he took the hand of the girl in his.

"You mean so much to me Y/n. I need you with me. Please don't rush into this mission. Please..don't leave me." Shikamaru said in a whisper tone.

The girl just looked up at him and slowly nodded, tears building up in her eyes.

"Okay.." she said quietly "M'sorry.."

Shikamaru took her into his arms, holding her firmly. "I'm sorry, too...just be careful okay?"

Y/n nodded slowly as she let her body relax
against him.
