The cold wind whipped over her face, biting at her nose as she moved her face cover up more and pulled down the eye covers to shield from the nipping wind. The snow and wind were getting worse, but in this climate it wasn't much to worry about, nothing was more tedious than fishing to Phanessa. Ash blonde hair blew in her eyes line of vision, making things more difficult to see out of what little slits she already had to look through. The covers allowed very light to get in, but also made it hard to see your full range of vision, something the Elvarian made to help with the reflection on the snow.To many the snowy North was unbearable, but to Phanessa's tribe they found refuge within the north. Away from all the progressing cities and capital, for many generations the Elvarians did not see eye to eye with the others, you could say they were more stuck-up about the fact that other species didn't want a calm life. Instead most sought power and war, but this was also something that was bound to happen with many breaking the territories treaties and disrespecting one's culture or killing the other species for a higher status. The Elvarians were close to Elves, but the Elves completely abandoned the country of Drevious in order to save their species from extinction. Causing the Elvarians to go into hiding in the snowy mountains in the North. Away from chaos that started the Ancient War of the Fallen.
Phanessa thought many times what it would be like outside of these mountains or what the other species were like, but many times the Elders in the tribe told her to stay within the borders or she could be enslaved or worse, eaten by giants. To Phanessa these were all fairy-tales that were made to scare her from wondering, but she complied with these rules in order to save the peace that her people worked so hard for.
Wind blew in her face again, this time more harsh and the snow that fell early had seemed to turn into a harsh blizzard that only seemed to get more and more angry as time went on, concern grew on her face and yet she still hasn't caught anything.
"Damn, this isn't good." Accepting defeat she grabbed her bag and spear and started the long trek up the base of the mountain. Snow came down harder and made it harder to see as the sky grew darker with snow clouds. Groaning noises came from the Barks as the mother called out to her young. You knew the storm would be terrible when the mountain goat-like creatures called for each other to hide away. The young jumped from the side of the mountain with their black hooves, keeping their balance so steady. The black eyes stared down at Phanessa, Barks called out to her almost like they were worried for her safety from the storm. The mother made another loud gurgling groan with her trunk like nose towards her, a smile grew from her lips as she waved at them.
"Don't worry about me." And with a final glance the barks jumped off into the distance with their long furry tails waving in the air. Almost like a wave goodbye. This sight warmed Phanessa's heart as she made her way up towards the Elvarian tribe. The view of the ocean from where she stood was magnificent on its own. The fog grew over the ocean which was worrying for those out on the boats fishing, how would they get back in that thick of fog? She prayed that the gods would guide them back safely.
"There you are! Did you see that fog? It's going to be hard for the fisherman to come in this time." A familiar voice came from behind. Turning around she was met with a boy her age smiling, his dimples showed even more.
"Wren, when did you get back from scouting?"
"Aspen told us to head back when the storm got worse, but it was surprising since it doesn't look that bad from here." Wren scratched the back of his neck in confusion. "Either way, we should head back." Phanessa nodded her head as they kept going.
The village was buzzing with everyone running around to prepare for the big storm making the two look at each other in confusion, but also making the worry grow in the pit of their stomachs.
