The morning was perfect. The breeze was cool, the sun was rising and it was the perfect opportunity to get some training in.As Hayley tied her laces, she began to run out to her old track where her and Marlon once used to train together when they were little. The fresh Victorian air did her good. It helped getting away from the craziness which was her life, even if it's only for a few weeks.
As she sprints down towards the beach, she stops for a moment as she sees a fellow runner off in the distance. Only to notice it was Poppy.
She sprinted after her, grabbing her arm once she finally reached the girl.
"Pops!" she greeted her, as Poppy pulled off her headphones and caught her breath.
"Hayley! I didn't know you liked to run."
"I don't but training is important. I'm glad to see we still have the same mindset." Hayley responded.
"Well I still have a few miles left, do you want to join me?" Poppy offers, which Hayley gladly accepts.
Running with someone else is much more fun then running by yourself. And both the girls always worked better when they had a little pressure on.
"Want to race?" Hayley smirked, as Poppy nodded and the two girls sprinted off in the same direction, chasing after one another like Cats and mouses.
When the girls finally reached the beach, they stopped to rest, as Poppy begun stretching out her legs.
"That was entertaining." Hayley puffs, still trying to regain her breath after realising she may not be as fit as Poppy.
"Here, stretch, it'll help your legs not feel so jelly like." Poppy helps her, extending out her leg to show her what to do.
A notification pops up from Poppy's phone. As she grabs it, her facial expression drops and all Hayley hears is a scoff from her.
"What's up, Pops?" hayley asks, confused on what she was so annoyed about.
"It's Manu! He's got me doing beginner classes all week! I'm not going to get the chance to get any actual training in if I have to spend all my time training the groms." Poppy tells her, clearly pissed at the fact as her voice raises.
"Damn, I'm sorry, Pops." hayley apologises, feeling bad for her as she knew how important Poppy's training is to her. "I'll run back with you, if you'd like."
Poppy nods, as the girls stand up from the ground, stretching one last time before continuing their run.
As they arrive to Poppy's house, Poppy groans as they walk in through the backyard.
"You don't have to stay if you don't want to, Hayley. I know you'd much rather be surfing right now, because I know for a fact I would."
"It's fine, Pops. I've got training with Manu anyway."
As the girls walk in, Hayley is greeted by Manu with a tight hug. "How's my favourite student going?" he asks, smiling down at her.
"Excuse me?" Poppy interrupts, clearly offended by Manu's choice of words.
"Your my sister, Pops. You don't count." Manu retorts.
"I'm good, Manu. Thanks." hayley replies, walking back to stand with Poppy.
"Jackson bay is a week away, and if i don't get a result, we can kiss the state team goodbye." Poppy argues, whilst helping one of the little groms zip up his wetsuit.
"We will go out for a session at the end of the day, okay?" Manu reasons. "Hayley you game?"
"Always."
