The car ride couldn't get more awkward as Ari sat staring out the window as Hayley sat across from him, staring at him, wondering what he was thinking. It wasn't easy for him and Marlon to be so close to each other let alone be in the same car, as Marlon argued with his mother.

"Couldn't Bodhi have come with us at least?" Marlon complains to his mother.

"I want you and Ari to spend some time together, it will be good for you." Luciano replied, turning to her son.

"Do you honestly think he wants be around me?" Marlon spoke Portuguese, to avoid Ari hearing what they had to say. "No, he doesn't."

"Marlon!" Luciana pouted.

"Você poderia tentar ter uma conversa aberta com ele." Hayley spoke, throwing ari a small smile.

translation- you could try having an open conversation with him.

It didn't matter what language they spoke, he knew they were talking about him.

"He still blames me for the accident." Marlon continues to argue, continuing to speak in Portuguese.

"He actually said that?" Luciana asked honestly.

"He doesn't have to say it! He picked a fight with me, remember?"

"You riled him up!" Hayley replied.

Ari was now sitting there like the odd duck as the family all argued in a language he was unfamiliar with.

Luciana turned toward ari, "You know Ari, I know it's been a really tough year for you, but you know, the past is the past. It's done now. You say sorry and you move on."

"Beautiful Aunty." Hayley smiled.

Marlon groaned. "I have nothing to say sorry for. Alright?"

Ari didn't say a word, but it was written all over his face. He was irritated. Hayley noticed, leaning a hand over to place over his. Mouthing the words "Ignore him, It's okay."

Ari smiled, as they turned to the window hearing the sudden sound of continuous beeping coming from the side of them.

They all looked to see Bodhi, Poppy and Summer all bunched up in the back seat of the van, listening to music and laughing with one another.

"I should've gone with the girls. No offence Aunt." Hayley leant her head against the window, wishing she was in Manu's van with them, instead of stuck in the car with all the male testosterone and the tension that could be cut with a knife.

"None taken."

Down at the Jackson Bay beach, Hayley approached Ari, as he holds his phone up this ear.

"Mum, I'm fine." he mutters, as hayley hears snippets of the conversation on the other end. "Shoulders good."

Hayley taps her wrist, signalling to Ari that he needs to wrap it up, as they were about to go warm up.

"Love you." he says to his mother before hanging up.

"Didn't know you were such a mamas boy." Hayley joked, causing a smile from Ari.

"Shut up." he joked, roughing a hand through Hayley's hair, messing it all up.

Hayley laughs, turning back to him when he stops. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm good, I feel good." he replies, feeling confident in his ability compared to last comp.

Manu approaches the both of them, grabbing them by their shoulders and pulling them both towards the beach.
