Drakon Attack

"Lee," Chiron said urgently. "Camp needs your cabin's assistance. Some wood Nymphs have reported a Drakon sighting around camp borders." Lee nodded in understanding.

I rubbed my eyes, I felt exhausted. I looked out the window, it was still completely dark out. I looked across the room to the sun shaped clock we had on the wall. With a shock, I realized it wasn't morning yet. The clock read 3am.

"I'll give you a minute too wake your siblings up," said Chiron. I hoped Chiron knew that Lee was going to need more than a few minutes. Despite the happy sunshine stereotype, not all of us were morning people. Trust me, you do not want to cross some of my siblings in the morning. They get very cranky.

I stretched my legs, forcefully kicking the bottom of the top bunk to wake Will up.

"Stop," he muttered. By the creaking of the bunk, I could tell he was rolling onto his other side. I kicked the top mattress harder, standing up on my mattress to nudge Will. "Get up," I hissed. "There's a Drakon sighting and if you want in, you're going to have to get up because Lee isn't going to wake me or you up," I whispered. Lee was across the room nudging Nicola awake; he did not look happy.

Will sat up; his blond mop of hair looked like a curly Bird nest. He rubbed his eyes, giving me a death glare. Despite his attitude, he didn't protest. Deep down he didn't want to miss out on the action either.

I slid out of bed and began gathering my things as Lee went around waking everyone up.

After everyone was up, we all scrambled around changing out of pjs and gathering our weapons (some might have been scattered on the ground).

I looked down at my wrist, my sun charmed bracelet was there like always. I kneeled down on the ground, pulling out my bow and quiver from underneath my bed. I grabbed the golden arrow that was a gift from my father, unwrapping it from the pillowcase I stored it in. I debated adding it to my quiver. I decided against the idea, carefully wrapping the arrow back in the pillowcase and placing it back into my drawer. I grabbed my hip pack, fastening it around my waist. On it was the golden sun pin Lee gave me for Christmas. I pulled my messy curly hair into a ponytail to keep it out of the way. In about five minutes, we were changed and out the door.

The group consisted of Lee, Bella, Micheal, Lucy, Nicola, Jasper, Flowers, Lincoln, Will, Mads and I. Lincoln, Will, and I being the youngest. The even younger campers (and newest camper) like Vi, Kayla, Austin, and Leilani were left alone to sleep.

We made a quick pit stop at the armory. After fastening on our armor, we followed Chiron. He led us past the cabins and the big house. The air was nice and cool. It was still pretty dark out since the sun hadn't even begun to rise. The only source of light was the Crecent shaped moon that seemed to smile down at us like the Chesire Cat. A breathtaking array of starts lit up the sky. That was one of my favorite things about camp. It was so far away from others that the light pollution was less, so the stars splattered across the black night sky were visible to the human eye.

We trudged along, blindly following Chiron. We walked towards the hills where I could see Thalias' Tree in the distance. Then, I saw a hill move. For a second, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. At that moment, I noticed the hill wasn't a hill; it was a Drakon. The monster was ten meters' long and as wide as a school bus. It was completely covered in green scales. My eyes wandered too it's face, my gaze falling over the beast's big yellow eyes.

My heart dropped as I felt all air being sucked out of my lungs. The feeling was similar to hearing a loud noise in the middle of the night. I stood paralyzed in fear, the only noise I was aware of was the pounding of my own heart. A distant part of my mind remembered too late that Heja once told me that Drakon's eyes could paralyze with fear.
