The day was crisp, the sun shined brightly, and the sunflowers blew gently in the wind

A brown haired child ran through a patch of sunflowers; Elliot.

Elliot had a small flower crown. A flower crown made of the same bright yellow sunflowers in the patch he played in.

Elliot's family was a part of the nature tribe.

They were close friends with the sun king and his daughter Amanda.

Amanda had always watched Elliot from the sun as he played in the sunflower fields,

She always wanted to go and talk to Elliot, her father wouldn't permit it.

"Dad, please, I want to go hang out with kids my age!" she would tell her dad, but each time her father would respond with.

"Amanda, we've been over this. As the princess of the sun, you must stay here and attend to your duties."

and she would be dismissed.

Well, this story isn't about Amanda and Elliot.

Oh no, in fact, this story is about Elliot and another boy named Micah.
More on them later, for now lets go back to Elliot.

Elliot liked playing in the sunflower fields during the day, when the sun was warm and crisp. His family did not mind him being out and about during the day. But when he requested to play out at night, his family always had the excuse that he needed to rest for the next day.

Elliot didn't mind this for a while, but over time, he began to get lonely and in need of a friend.

One day, when he was helping his family tend to the sunflowers, he asked a question, "Ma, why can't I go out at night?"
his mother was silent for a second before answering with a simple, "It's more dangerous out at night, Elliot."

"But why?" he pushed on, but his mother never gave him an answer that day. Instead, he decided to drop the topic and continue tending to the flowers.

After the flowers were tended to and his family ate their dinner, Elliot decided that he was going to stay up instead of sleeping that night.
Elliot watched as the suns vibrant colors mixed in with the cool tones of the night. 'Almost time,' he thought as the sun set completely. The night looked dark and empty, not at all what he thought it would be.

'Maybe it's because the house is always bright.' With that final thought, he quickly grabbed his bag and put on his shoes. Elliot quietly tiptoed through the house, careful not to make any noise as he made his way to the front door. When he finally reached it, he took a deep breath and carefully opened it.
