"shivers," she groaned, her upper back aching from the fall. "a little help here, annie?"
annabeth chase, pippa's best friend, who was muttering to herself 'he must be the one' through pippa's not-so-graceful descent from the tree, snapped out of her trance and pulled her friend up. "you sound like a grandma, pip," annabeth then imitated her friends 'curse' from before. "come on, i need to talk to chiron." she then turned on her heel and began to walk to the big house.
"yeah, well, i think it's poetic and a bit of explanation would be nice, you know considering i'm your best friend of seven years." pip grumbled, reminding her of their long lasting friendship, which had started when annabeth arrived at camp with luke. pip had marched up to annabeth after a few days and blurted out, 'do you want to be friends?' and the girls' bond began from there.
"you know how chiron has been promising for years i was fated to go on a quest? i need to ask him about it." annabeth explained to pip.
"okay... and i need to be there why?"
"well you don't, chiron will probably send you off to do something, but i'd just like the company on the way there."
pippa sighed in exasperation, but truly she was grateful that annabeth enjoyed her company.
the pair continued their way to the big house, where chiron and mr d often played card games, occasionally interrupted by campers or mr d grumbling about his father stealing his wine power. this time though, their game was interrupted by campers. the house had a big and open first story, more of a gazebo style than a usual first floor. there was a huge wrap around wooden porch, with white painted railings. annabeth walked proudly into the room while pip shuffled in awkwardly after her. chiron acknowledged them first.
"hello miss chase and- ah miss chanson, just the person i needed to see, i have a favour to ask you," chiron stood extremely tall, his lower half a gorgeous dark brown stallion, his upper half a man. most centaurs did not wear any clothes over their top half, however chiron was dressed in a modest tweed jacket. he turned to fully face her."please fetch some dinner quickly, then may i ask you to head over to the infirmary to watch over our new camper, percy jackson?"
pip nodded at the activites director then muttered goodbye to annabeth. alone she made her way down the dirt path to the dinner pavillion, watching as the sun sunk lower and lower behind the trees. she could feel herself tire more easily now that the sun wasn't out. children of apollo, like her, usually became less powerful once the moon came out. don't let this fool you though, they can still very easily fight, just not at their full power. she joined her brothers and sisters at their table. there were six others, james, marjorie, betty, inez, este, john and selena. she sat down between betty and inez, which she shouldn't have bothered doing as it was their turn to provide their food for the gods. pippa led the group and went first. she pushed a large serving of lamb into the flames and offered it to her father.
once all the other campers returned to their tables, she quickly finished her food and slipped away from the pavillion, making her way to the infirmary like chiron had requested of her. the clouds began to darken as she walked, lightning flashed in the distance. as she walked through the door of the infirmary building, it began to pour down with rain. she attempted to shake off some of the droplets that had landed on her, then waved to her sisters betty and este who were caring for a boy who had a gash on his leg in the waiting room. betty dabbed at the cut with disinfectant while este stood behind her and held a box of first aid.
"chiron asked me to watch the new camper, percy? do i need anything?" pip asked.
"he's down the hall, second door on the left, he's passed out cold and doesn't seem to have any serious injuries." betty informed her.
este whisper-shouted to pip, "he's really cute!"
pippa laughed then followed betty's instructions and turned into the second room on the left. she stood there for a while, before noticing a wooden chair by his bed and plopped herself onto it. she looked over at percy. he was about fourteen or fifteen with messy blonde curls. his lips were slightly parted and a string of drool ran across his cheek. pip stifled a laugh.
half an hour passed and it was pitch black outside, raindrops pattered loudly on the window as lightning flashed and thunder boomed. she found herself toying with the charms dangling from the gold, glowing bracelet on her wrist- a gift from her father. there were six charms- a cello, a bow and arrow, a sphere (which she had discovered was a very, very bright sphere of light when she had tried using it in a dodgeball game and almost blinded herself), a sword, a shield and a small vial of amnesia and honey. when each one of the charms was pulled off the chain, whichever one she held between her fingers would soon sprout to a lifesize version.
she hadn't yet used the medicine since camp had plenty of elixirs in the infirmary, but still she liked to pull the glass vial out and admired in the intricate gold sun details on the cap. she did this now, and watched at the elixir inside flashed gold, silver and white.
she returned the vial to it's charm size and hooked it back on to it's chain as percy restlessly shifted. she saw his eyes flicker and open, revealing deep sea blue coloured eyes. he squinted through the darkness, trying to make out her face, but could only see her silouette.
"where am i?" he croaked, his throat dry and scratchy from his lack of hydration while he was passed out.
"you drool when you sleep." pip responded before percy passed out, once again. she smiled in the dark, then returned to playing with her bracelet.
liv's thoughts
first chapter! so i researched about apollo's children and found that it's really rare for them to have photokinesis (ability to control light) so just to clear it up, the sphere charm turns into like a really bright lightbulb but in the shape of a ball (idk if that makes sense)anyway i hope you enjoyed and don't be a silent reader, comment and vote :)!
