percy leaned over medusa's delivery book, addresses scribbled on the pages. pip, annabeth and grover watched from the other side of the desk as he explained his plan.

"hermes express, she ships these things all over. some of it goes to olympus."

"percy, you can't ship medusa's head to olympus," annabeth told him.

"why not?"

"because the gods won't like it. at all."

"'at all' at all," grover added.

"why? that's what you do with dangerous stuff. like batteries, you just send 'em back where they came from," percy said.

pip let out a snort. annabeth and grover glared at her.

"oh come on, that was funny," pip rolled her eyes at her friends.

annabeth ignored pippa, sometimes the daughter of apollo could be too carefree, "okay. look, this is a bad idea. they will see this as impertinent."

"i am impertinent."
"he is impertinent," pip and percy both said at the same time. a light blush dusted their cheeks at their synchronisation.

"yes, but we're not," annabeth said.

"really, very not," grover agreed, panic laced in his voice.

"look, medusa tried to derail our quest, she tried to get pip to sacrifice herself, knowing very well that we wouldn't make it three days without her. she's got serious beef with your mom too. when you look at it that way, this seems kinda like tribute or something, doesn't it? and besides..." percy stuffed medusa's head into a cardboard box which sat on the table next to medusa's book of delivery addresses. he then took the invisible hat off the head and held it out to annabeth. "this way, a part of your mom's still with us."

"thank you." annabeth said softly, taking the hat.

pip smiled at the two- finally they were getting along.

"so this isn't exactly what i meant, by choosing each other, there are actual dangers involved here that cannot be -" grover was cut off by percy clapping. a smile played on the boy's lips as his eyes flickered over to pip, who was grinning widely, trying to stop herself from laughing.

"you're gonna sing the song, aren't you?" grover sighed.

"oh golly, the road's gettin' bumpy, consensus," percy sung as grover rolled his eyes.

the four had managed to walk to the nearest train station by nightfall, and paid for tickets to los angeles. annabeth and grover were asleep on their bunk in the train's cabin, while pip laid awake, staring at the underside of percy's bunk. she wasn't sure whether or not he was asleep.

"hey, you asleep?" percy asked, answering pip's question on if he was awake or not.

"yes." she replied.

percy could hear her grin in her words, "you and annabeth are really close, right?"

"yeah."

"has she ever told you anything about thalia?"

"why?"

"she was the last forbidden kid before me, right? she must've dealt with the same kinda stuff."
