The next day Chiron gathered the demigods with the most potential to join Percy on his quest, it was for nothing, of course, as he had already decided.
Coco made her way to the meeting spot at the centre of camp, smiling as she saw Luke standing across from her. He had his shoulders back and a smile on his face, he thought Percy was going to choose him, she realized. Well, he was wrong.
Chiron and Dionysus walked up, looking over at them as Chiron began to speak. "The Oracle has confirmed what we expected, that this quest will proceed toward the Underworld. Where you will confront of god who rebelled against this brothers"
Annabeth's eyes snapped towards her from across the way, "Hades" she mouthed, getting a slight nod in return as her shocked eyes never went away.
"Hades" Chiron confirmed as they looked back at him, "The entrance to Hades' domain lies under the city of Los Angeles. This is where you will journey to. Time is short" he looked out at the kids as Coco smiled at him. "I have selected our most compelling candidates, for which you will choose three to join you on this quest and ensure that we succee-"
"Coco and Annabeth" Percy interrupted, staring at the blond as her eyes cast towards him. He nodded, completely sure of his decision as Chiron looked at him.
"Customarily, one waits to at least hear a name or two before choosing" Chiron explained, looking at him but his eyes never left her. "Are you sure you don't wanna hear more?"
The boy looked away from her as he pressed his lips together, "This thing, Zeus's master bolt, we need to get it back, right?"
"Yes"
"Under any circumstance?"
"Yes"
"And if the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs for it to succeed. . . " his eyes cast to Annabeth, who held a confused face. " . . You'd want someone who won't hesitate when they do it" the girl nodded stiffly, glancing at her best friend who could feel the excitement radiating off of her. "And it's gonna be difficult?"
"Extraordinarily"
"And let's be honest, none of us are cut out for it" his eyes returned to Chiron as he thought for a moment, "Well, she is. Out of anyone, she's most likely to succeed" Coco's eyes stayed on him, mouth slightly ajar as he continued. "We go out there with our heads between our asses, we'll fail. We go out there with our heads between our asses and the most powerful person in camp, we might succeed. You said it yourself, she's the best there is"
