       THE OUTER BANKS, or as some may call it, paradise on earth. it is beautiful, the beach, the palm trees, the warm weather. the endless shops and exceptional local restaurants. it is every tourists dream to go year after year, to buy a house to live there, but the locals may say something different.

there is constant clashing between both sides of the island. there is the figure eight, big houses and endless money. the residents of the figure eight are known as the kooks. then, there is the cut. the cut is the complete opposite of the figure eight, which has little to no money. those who reside on the cut are known as the pouges.

there is no middle ground between the two sides of the island, you are either a kook or a pouge— unless your a tourist, but that doesn't really count. this has been a thing on the island for a very long time. a kook and a pouge hanging out casually or even seriously is a very rare occurrence and if it does happen, they are set up for endless shit talking from both sides for the rest of eternity. with an exception for kiara, who was once a kook but accepted by the pouges.

there is also an exception for gigi pierce and jj maybank. they have found their own version of a middle ground. they call this "friends with benefits" and no one has to know about it. they find it as a great deal— they both get a good hookup, maybe smoke together and that is literally it for them. with no one knowing about it (except john b) they don't have to deal with getting shit on and exiled from the island by their friends.

in other terms, gigi is a kook and jj is a pouge.

gigi has lived on the figure eight her whole life. she is the other half of the kook princess duo, with her best friend sarah cameron and is particularly popular on her side of the island. though, she will absolutely not go out of her way to be mean to the pouges. she has never really believed in that and doesn't really care for the 'beef' nor understand it. but, her friends on the other hand, are assholes and for that reason, she isn't very liked by the pouges. guilty by association as some would say.

living in the figure eight, one would think that gigi has the perfect life but is far from perfect. just almost a year ago, her family was shattered.

her father had left them.

he just up and left in the middle of the night. he left her mother with pretty much all of the money he had and also left a note.
