I'm all about saving money for unexpected situations, you never know what might come up. I enjoy my hour-long lunch break without a care in the world. Little did I know, things were about to take a turn when I returned to the office.

As I enjoy my sandwich, my phone suddenly rings. "Hey, it's Aaliyah," I answer.

"Get your ass back to the office, now!" Alexander's urgent voice booms through the phone. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, I reply, "Yes, sir. I'll be there right away." I quickly wrap up my sandwich, intending to save it for later when I'm back at the office.

I strolled over to the building and spotted Britney, the assistant of COOS. She informed me that there was no need for me to fax the paperwork as she would take care of it. She had a smile on her face, almost like a smirk. I didn't pay much attention to it as I had to urgently reach Alexander's office.

I give the door a couple of knocks since that's the protocol whenever we enter his office. As I step inside and prepare to sit down, he interrupts me. "No, please stand up," he instructs. I comply with his request and remain on my feet.

"What's the matter?" I inquire. "Don't play games with me right in front of my face. Don't act like I'm insane while you pretend to be this nice, diligent employee. There's absolutely no way you thought it was acceptable to disregard my instructions and not send the paperwork to the Johnsons via fax."

"Oh no, sir. Britney specifically told me not to fax it over because she said she would handle it," I explained, fidgeting with my hands out of nervousness.

"Who on earth put that idea in your head? When I give you an instruction, you shouldn't ignore it just because someone else said something. You only follow my orders, not anyone else's – not Britney's, not Brandon's, not anyone's. You're my assistant," he shouted angrily. He reclined in his chair and stared at me.

"Now, what am I supposed to do? Should I fire you for not following my instructions? You could have completely ruined this deal. It could have affected my finances and I absolutely hate it when people mess with my money. However, since I managed to resolve the issue and the deal didn't fall through, I suppose I'll be lenient today. But remember, if you repeat this mistake, it will cost you your job. So, moving forward, only take orders from me, your boss," he stated.

"Oh- yeah- YY-Yes, sir. We're clear," I replied. As soon as he dismissed me, I headed straight to the office. I closed the blinds, locked the door, and let my tears flow. I kept crying and crying, wondering why she would do this to me.

Why did she attempt to have me terminated? My livelihood is at stake here. Trying to compose myself, I head to the bathroom to relieve myself and there she is. It's Britney.

"Oh, I can't believe you still have a job," she remarks, a smirk playing on her lips. "You deliberately did this, didn't you? You wanted me out of here? But why? What have I ever done to you? I've always been kind to everyone in this place. I just don't get why you're so mean to me for absolutely no reason."

"You strutted around here like you own the place. Acting like you're the best thing since sliced bread when you're not. Just a girl trying to fit into the corporate world, which clearly isn't your cup of tea. Maybe you should stick to working in retail, pushing carts and bagging groceries. That's more your speed, right? Weren't you a waitress or something? Maybe that's where you truly belong. You don't deserve to be here, making big bucks or even a decent salary. You're entitled to nothing. This isn't your place. Honestly, if I were Alex, I would have fired you on the spot. But we'll deal with that later. So don't mess up, because any misstep or mistake, I'll be quick to report it to Alexander, who already has a bone to pick with you. My advice? Do everything perfectly, because if I catch wind of any slip-ups, I'll be the first to spill the beans. Have a great day," she said, laughing as she walked away.

It was around 4 p.m. and everyone was starting to leave, but I had to stay behind to finish my work.

As I watched everyone saying goodbye to each other, hugging and all, I realized that no one said goodbye to me. No one hugged me. I walked back to my office and sank into the chair. Maybe my mom was right. Maybe I don't belong here. Maybe I don't deserve to be happy. Maybe I don't deserve anything at all. I just couldn't hold back the tears. Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door and someone walked in. I assumed it was Alexander since everyone else had probably left already.

"Hey, Miss Jones. Can you please type up this report for me as soon as possible?"

"Sure thing," I replied in a hushed tone.

He glanced up from the document in his hand and studied me intently.

"Have you been crying?" he inquired. "No, no, I'm okay. Everything's fine," I reassured him.

He stepped closer, entering the room and shutting the door behind him. "Don't underestimate me. I'm not clueless. I can tell you've been crying. So what's going on? What happened?" he asked, leaning against the wall.

"Fine, you don't have to act concerned. I get it. You don't like me. I understand that, but there's no need to pretend like you care about me or my feelings because I know you don't. So why should I bother sharing what's wrong or anything?"
