It was almost sunrise when Kumi found some peace and went back to bed. Nanami was still deep asleep when she entered the room. She covered him with a blanket tucking it in gently. Then she sat on her side of the bed watching him for a few more minutes before curling up next to him and drifting off. She got roughly two hours of sleep before her alarm went off. Jumping from the bed she grabbed her phone. She completely forgot about it. When she turned it off she heard Nanami growling next to her. Knowing she woke him up Kumi rebuked herself. Putting the phone back on the nightstand she remained quiet, maybe if she just stayed still he'd go to sleep again.
-Morning, love.- he whispered reaching his arm to her side of the bed.
-So sorry I woke you up.- Kumi blunted out turning to him.
-That's fine...- he scoffed pinching the bridge of his nose.
-How do you feel?- she asked cuddling on his shoulder.
-Like a truck ran me over.- he chuckled kissing her and wrapping his arm around her. -You're leaving for work?- he asked softly.
-I thought to call in sick, so I can help you around the house.- she explained with closed eyes and a light smile. She loved the moments like this.
-No need for that. I think I'm going to stay in bed anyway, maybe sleep some more.- Nanami smiled covering them with a blanket with his other hand.
-If you say so. But I'll cook us something before I go.- they stayed like that for five more minutes before she slowly got up. Nanami half asleep. Giving him a small kiss on the lips she left the bed. She didn't feel like doing anything at all, yet she'd feel guilty if she didn't make him something warm to eat. Turning the stove on she started a soup. Throwing every vegetable they had in the fridge into the boiling water she let it simmer for an hour while she prepared chicken. The cooking occupied her so she forgot about the headache or the restless night. After some time Nanami walked down the hallway, a blanket around the shoulders. His steps were slow but sturdy. Kumi was setting the table as he entered the main area. -I was just about to wake you...- she spoke softly having an urge to rush over to him and help him to the table but she knew he'd get annoyed with her. Instead, she let him take small steps to his seat. She pulled out the chair for him and started serving the meal. He sat down with a sharp sigh holding his wounded side. -I'll check in at work late today, I already talked to Shoko. She thinks you should take this week off.- Kumi talked putting a bowl of soup in front of him.
-The whole week would be too much.- he said coldly and Kumi scoffed in disagreement. -I'll be fine in two days. Besides I promised Yuji I'd treat him to dinner after the completed mission.-
-You can't attend missions... You... You nearly died last night.- her tone slowly degrading to a whisper before a tear rolled down her cheek. She looked away for a moment fixing herself up. Nanami watched her patiently, she was under much stress and he only worsened it. -Sorry, I'm just...- she sighed bringing a smile to her face. -I want you to be alright. You should rest and recover fully before going to work.- her voice back to soft and gentle.
-I will. I'll stay in for some time.- he agreed only to give Kumi some peace of mind. -I should call the higher-ups and report last night's mission to them.- he nodded with a smile locking eyes with her. This didn't sit right with him, seeing his love in this mental state. He knew he had to fix it but he had no energy to do so. They had their lunch in silence, it wasn't particularly awkward but neither of them knew what to say. Kumi felt like dying in that chair, the thoughts of what could've happened flooding her mind all over again. -I'm going back to bed...- Nanami broke the silence after finishing the lunch. Standing up slowly he supported himself on the table and walked to the bedroom stopping by Kumi. He bent over giving her a kiss which she accepted. -Don't worry yourself over me, okay? I love you.- he smiled making his way back to bed.
