Waking up for the first time somewhere new, usually meant that Charity had made the terrible decision to go home with someone who had paid her some sort of attention on a night out. But when she blinked back the sleep she had awoken from that morning, she found herself fully clothed, without a hangover beside the familiar face of her youngest son.
Moses was already awake but had kept himself occupied by looking out at the sea through the gap in the curtains. As Charity stretched and turned to face him, Moses told her all about the boat he'd seen sail by.
"That's nice, son" She yawned in reply, reaching for her phone.
Her hand patted the table top a few times before her fingers latched onto the small device. She squinted at the bright screen which told her it was twenty six minutes past eight. Thankfully, none of them needed much time to get ready that morning, just a quick wash would suffice. A day at the waterpark needed just a t-shirt and shorts, something to swim in and clean pants for afterwards.
Noah and Sarah begrudgingly got out of bed fifteen minutes later.
"Come on, this was your idea" Charity quipped as she popped her head into their room.
"Why are you so happy to get up?" Noah groaned, stretching both arms above his head as he tried to wake his body up.
"Because I'm on holiday, babe. It's already twenty odd degrees out there and there's a full English downstairs with my name on it, and I didn't even have to cook it" She replied.
Sarah grimaced at the idea of eating anything of the sort, especially when her body clock was still an hour behind.
"Do they do cereal?" She asked, kicking her legs out from under the blanket.
"Is cereal a breakfast food?" Charity quipped.
"Yeah,"
"Then of course they do cereal. It's Spain, Sarah, not Timbuktu!"Charity dabbed a napkin to her lips. The beans had definitely not been Heinz, but the bacon and eggs had been delicious. A continental breakfast had been just what she'd needed to soak up the cocktails of the night before, and a hot black coffee had given her a caffeine kick strong enough to plaster a smile on her face as Noah handed her a pamphlet to the nearest waterpark.
"How much? This is daylight robbery this" She gasped as she eyed the prices in the right hand column.
Noah rolled his eyes but daren't say anything, in fear that she would change her mind about taking them, or worse, make them pay for their admission with their own spending money.
"Ooh, look Moses, there's a pirate ship playground in the kiddy pool" Sarah pointed out, making Moses shriek with excitement. Charity shook off the ringing in her ear and tucked her chair under the table. It was five to ten by then, and they were due to meet Vanessa, Tracy and Johnny in the lobby. She wondered if Vanessa would be wearing her yellow bikini again...Johnny spotted Moses before any of the others laid eyes on each other, and ran across the lobby into his arms. Tracy looked up from her phone and smiled and waved them over from a sofa near the reception desk. Vanessa had her back turned and was chatting to Elena who was in the process of booking a minibus to take them all to the waterpark.
Charity greeted Tracy and sat down beside her, glad to put down the bag of clothes and towels she'd been left to carry.
"You alright?" Tracy asked in her usual cheerful manner.
Charity nodded a yes, but kept her sight on Vanessa, who's bum looked great in a pair of tight cotton shorts.
"I slept like a log last night" Tracy mentioned, lacing her fingers together and cracking her knuckles.
Charity dragged her eyes away from Vanessa and responded to Tracy like a nice, normal person would.
"Me too, actually. Even if he was snoring in my ear all night" She joked, nodding towards Moses who had his arms stretched out pretending to be the jaws of a shark.
"He's a cutie, Johnny too. They're going to love today"
"Well, that's what holidays are all about aren't they? Keeping your kids happy" Charity shrugged.
"Yeah,"
Vanessa came over just after that with a warm smile for the Dingle's.
"Hi," She beamed, stuffing a bit of paper into her pocket.
"Hi," Charity replied, her voice a little raspier than she meant it to be.
Vanessa swallowed and fished the paper straight back out of her shorts.
"Taxi's booked. Should only be a couple of minutes. And it was free" She announced, showing them the receipt Elena had given her.
"Great," Charity nodded. She couldn't see a yellow glimmar under Vanessa's t-shirt and was a little disappointed about it.
"You ready to get wet?" She asked, breaking the silence with a loud and enthusiastic voice.
Vanessa was taken aback and crossed her legs. Charity held their eye contact before diffusing the tension.
"Apparently, this Aqualand is one of the biggest waterparks in the world," she added.
Vanessa blinked her way out of her thoughts, her cheeks suddenly had a rosy glow.
"Is it?" She asked, but she turned from Charity to look out of the double doors, watching for the taxi.
Charity scratched her head and disguised a devious smile behind her hair as she enjoyed testing the waters. She found Vanessa blushed easily, which she was enjoying and planned to use to her advantage throughout the day.
