Sunghoon snickered as he watched you trek hopelessly up the stairs and into your apartment. His plan was working perfectly.
While you feared you were pregnant with Sunghoon's baby, the CEO knew you weren't. Even if the test was positive, the baby is Riki's, not Sunghoon's.
But you didn't need to know that.
If the plan continues to go on track, Riki would find out about the test and divorce you, believing that you were carrying another man's child. He knew you were with Sunghoon almost every night; something could've happened between you and the CEO.
Distraught, you will then go to Sunghoon for comfort, and he will help you with the divorce and through the early pregnancy stages. Once the divorce is finalized, Sunghoon will continue to care for you and the child, being there for the birth and eventually proposing to you. The child would become the heir of BE:Lift Lab Entertainment and soon lead the industries within the Park family fortune.
After driving twenty minutes to the city's edge, Sunghoon parked his car in front of a large house. He walked to the door and rang the doorbell. Seconds later, an older man in a black suit answered. It was the Park family butler.
"Good evening, Mr. Son. Are my parents here?" asked Sunghoon.
The butler nodded. "Yes, Young Master Park. Chairman Park and Businesswoman An are in the main dining room. They are expecting you."
Sunghoon said thank you and strode inside the house to the main dining room. Sunghoon's parents, An Yeonghwa and Park Jongbin were drinking tea, and Yeonghwa's face lit up when she saw her son.
"My little penguin!" the older woman cooed, rushing to Sunghoon and engulfing him in a hug. "It's been forever since you came here!"
"Yes, I'm sorry, Mother. I've just been busy with a lot of work," said Sunghoon.
"Oh, it's alright! Do you want something to drink? I can call one of the maids to bring it to you."
"No, I won't stay for long. I have something to tell you two."
"Ah, okay."
Yeonghwa pulled a chair out for Sunghoon. He sat down and looked at Jongbin.
"Father."
"Sunghoon."
They both greeted with few words. Yeonghwa knew how briny the relationship between her husband and son was, so she began the conversation. "So, what do you want to tell us, my little penguin?"
"Well, I've recently been dating a woman I met at the company, and I love her very much. I'm considering proposing to her soon."
The room was silent. Yeonghwa coughed, clearing her throat. "Proposing? How long have you known this woman? How long have you two been dating?"
"I haven't known her for long, and neither with dating. But I realize I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I've decided to push away my playboy personality because of her."
"Oh my, that's truly sweet!" said Yeonghwa. "I didn't know you had that in you, my little penguin."
"Cut the act, Sunghoon," Jongbin chimed in. "You were never serious about the girls you've 'dated.' Especially the one who recently just sued-"
"I knew you were going to say that, Father," said Sunghoon. "I figured you saw the articles, but I haven't told the public this information yet. The woman, Nishimura Y/n, is pregnant with my child."
Yeonghwa almost choked on her tea. "What? She's pregnant? And why does the name sound so familiar?"
"It's not a confirmed pregnancy, but Y/n will tell me once she takes the test," said Sunghoon. "And a former employee probably had the same last name as Y/n's Mother."
"Don't get too ahead of yourself, boy," said Jongbin. "Don't forget you have another child with the other woman."
"Why do you keep talking about the case like it happened yesterday, Father? The case was closed last month. I paid the woman the settlement money, and we agreed never to see each other again. So she and the child are basically out of my life now."
Yeonghwa gave her empty tea cup to one of the maids passing by. "Well, if your current girlfriend is pregnant, then congratulations. I don't mind welcoming her into the family. I'm glad you've finally found someone to settle down with, my little penguin. When I saw the articles, I was a little skeptical at first. But hearing you talk about Y/n has changed my point of view. I hope we get to meet Y/n soon."
"Thank you, Mother, and I'll have Y/n visit someday," said Sunghoon.
Yeonghwa excused herself, saying she was going to bed. She placed her hand on Jongbin's shoulder and hugged Sunghoon, saying goodnight and walking away.
It was just Jongbin and Sunghoon left in the dining room. The older man sighed, shaking his head.
"I see the pattern here, Sunghoon," Jongbin said. "You did the same thing with Sooji when you scouted her to become a model and look where she is now. You pushed her away, along with the child."
"Sooji wasn't fit to become my wife, Father," said Sunghoon. "You and I agreed on that ourselves."
"I know that. And your 'girlfriend,' Nishimura Y/n, is she related to the same person I'm thinking of?"
"Yes, she's the wife of Nishimura Riki."
"Are you kidding me?" Jongbin slammed his hands on the table, but Sunghoon didn't flinch.
"Why are you messing around with a married woman? And you got her pregnant, too?"
"Don't act like you haven't done the same thing, Father," said Sunghoon. "You and I know I got half-siblings on your and Mother's sides. My personality comes from both of you, after all. "
"But why Y/n? She's the innocent one out of this."
"Yes, I know. But Riki isn't innocent; he's the one that caused Yeji's death."
Jongbin sighed heavier. "Are you still whining over your sister's death, which happened many years ago?"
"Riki needs to take responsibility for what he did. He broke Yeji's heart, and that's why she died."
Nothing else Jongbin said would convince Sunghoon to change his thoughts. The death of Park Yeji was a pain in the chairman's side, but it seemed as if Sunghoon never recovered from it. Jongbin took fault for that.
"Sunghoon, is the child even yours if Y/n turns up pregnant?' asked Jongbin.
"You know it's not," said Sunghoon. "All it takes is a little fright, and your words will sound believable. You've said so yourself, Father."
Sunghoon stood up from his chair. "I'm going back home. I'll talk to you later."
Then he walked out without looking back.
"I truly did create a lunatic," Jongbin whispered to himself.
