Akio and I

I walked with Akio to lunch and got my bananas and oranges in the line while Amaya had baby carrots and adult carrots combining both of them. I have weird friends. But the weirdest of us all would be Maito. Who had packed ice cream in a cooler every lunch.

This time he didn't have the cooler so he waited in the long line in the cafeteria for his food while Akio was in there too with an empty tray waiting to be served eggplants and tuna. Though he mostly ate the eggplants. And skipped most of the tuna.

I scanned the area around the cafeteria. Looking for signs of aNaitu. She wasn't there. Thank God. But aKero was. Which was weird. I never noticed him before. Why am I noticing that he's here now? I continued to peel my bananas and oranges combining them into a banana-orange salad.

I pretty much do what Amaya does. Except mine is a little less weird. She puts baby carrots in a kabob on the adult carrots. So got myself a plastic knife and sliced my peeled bananas on the tray and mixed the orange slices with the banana slices eating them.

"Woah chef Lin."

"What?" I asked with my mouth full of bananas.

"How about you? Kabober Amaya?"

She chuckled and nearly choked on her carrot. I rolled my eyes and stuffed more oranges into my mouth. Amaya and I both began to talk with stuff in our mouth. As usual.

"So how are you and Maito?"

"Fine. I guess. You know we fought once."

"Once? Your lucky!"

"Yeah I guess. So you and Akio?"

"We fight sometimes. Mostly pointless stuff and everything."

I chewed and stuffed more sliced bananas into my mouth and some orange slices too.

"So how about a-"

I couldn't hear Amaya. She had too many carrots in her mouth.

"What?"

"What about aKero?"

I glared at Amaya for a second then scanned the area. His red hair tied back into a ponytail laughing with a few of his classmates. He smiled stupid. And his laugh was fake. Like he was hiding something or whatever.

"Hello? Lin to Amaya!"

I shook my head from my gaze. I looked at Amaya with my cheeks full of bananas.

"What?"

"I'm telling Akio!"

What was she talking about?

"About what?"

"You staring at aKero."

I rolled my eyes and scoffed with my arms crossed.

"Me? Please. aKero is stupid."

"Okay I was just checking."

Amaya gnawed on her adult carrot which all the baby carrots were gone and I had nothing left in my salad but on slice of orange. Quickly I ate it so I could talk to Amaya.

"What do you mean checking?"

"That your not cheating on Akio."

Me? Cheat? Oh Akio? No way! He's really sweet and ends up to blame himself every time we argue. And he even asked me out at the fair once on the Ferris wheel! It's actually a funny story how we met.

So you know how Akio has been in an orphanage like, all his life. Right? Well, this is an odd story. To be honest. I was really young and really curious and stupid as a kid. But I was actually glad I really curious and stupid as a kid. Because of Akio.

Well, my dad, mom, and I were walking into the orphanage so they could meet a friend of theirs. I forgot her name. But it was this really nice lady with long, curly blonde hair and would always where this headset of cat ears. She was super nice!

So I was 8 at the time and I wandered off into some place to meet some people. To check if any of them were friends with my parents. And another reason was that I was looking for Ren. Then I considered the possibility of him still being alive, too.

So I was looking for Ren. But I didn't find him. I looked for people friends with my parents. The rest of the adults were actually quite mean. Suddenly my curiosity made me end up in a samurai training section for the orphans. I mean, it was actually very, violent.

There was this kids who was injured badly on the arm and was oozing with blood. Another kid was laying on the floor unconscious with a scar on his head. The thing that caught my eyes were the last boys standing. One of them was Akio, for sure.

The other boy was someone I didn't know. Then soon that "other boy" was defeated and Akio won the prize. He spotted my gaze. But then slowly shook his head reverting back to reality and received his own samurai sword. Or at least, a junior in training silver samurai sword.

Foolishly, I walked up to him. And introduced myself. Saying my name and the reason why I was here. Though he was actually very quiet it scared me. I walked back to my parents but then he brushed his hand against my wrist but ended up catching my pinkie.

"I'm Akio Kamui. And I'm here because I was abandoned."

I looked at him in shock. He had a scar on his knee so he limped when he walked towards me. I continued to look at him in shock. He was so talented! How could he be abandoned just like that?

So we started talking and talking to each other to where a ton of kids slept and we sat next to each other on the bed. We talked and talked about our lives. I talked about how I lost Ren. He talked about his parents abandoning him.

"I have no friends, actually. I don't think we're allowed to in this orphanage."

"I only have one, her name is Amaya."

"At least you have one. I don't have any."

"Well, we're friends, right?"

I asked and there was a long pause and silence between us. Slowly, Akio nodded and smiled shyly.

"Lin! Where did you go?"

My father asked walking over to here. Then my mom put her hand on her hips with the other one holding my dad's hand with there fingers entwined.

I faced Akio and said bye. But then he grabbed my hand and looked at me kindly.

"When we grow up, would you marry me?"

I thought about it for a moment. I remembered I hated boys! But, why was Akio different? I nodded and we joined pinkies.

"When we grow up, I would marry you."

I said quietly enough so my parents wouldn't hear over the chatter in the orphanage. Akio smiled and I waved at him saying goodbye.

So every once a year I would go to that orphanage with my mom and dad so they could visit their friend while I would visit Akio.

But when I was 14. My parent's friend told me that Akio was no longer in the orphanage. I walked out sadly and bumped into someone with long, pink hair. It was Akio. Then he kissed me on the forehead and my cheeks flushed red.

"Akio!"

"Lin!"

I hugged him for as long as a minute. Then I had to go home but I invited him to meet my friends. Amaya and Maito on that karaoke night. Then he smiled and agreed. And I never knew that he was in the same high school as me!

After a while of remembering Akio came back from the long line in the cafeteria. I kissed him lightly on the cheek and he had a faint pale pink color on his cheeks.

"It's cute when you blush."

"Your cuter."

Akio said and planted a kiss on my lips. I was red from that and hid my face in my hands with embarrassment. Akio put his arm around me and patted my back. I rested my head on his shoulders and smiled. I forgot all the fights we had. Because remembering how Akio and I met. It was almost like. Magic? Now I was thinking childish!
