Seventy Two Hours

Life has been...rough, to say the least. The past seventy two hours have been rough, to be specific. It's not everyday you get home early from work to find your long term boyfriend fucking his coworker in your bed. That definitely started some shit. It's hard to remember exactly what happened in the moments following catching them in the act although the act itself is burnt into my brain in a way I don't think I'll be able to scrub clean. I do remember throwing the vase of flowers Theo had bought me just days prior. I also remember slipping and falling in the water that spilled and slicing my hand open on the broken glass. Of course, I had to embarrass myself in front of the other women in one of the worst moments of my life.

The bandaging that Ryan doctored me with, although necessary, made it difficult to tote boxes of my belongings into my new residence. Well it's not mine, it's Ryan's house, the house she shares with her almost husband. Yes, my best friend is engaged to the love of her life and is actively planning her wedding. Just a mere three days ago I was hoping for a ring a similar size to hers, now I'm so far from that goal it's laughable. I used to think I was going to get married. Ha, it's hilarious now.

"Hey Babe" Ryan stepped into view in the doorway to the guest room I now occupy. "Brett and the neighbors want to do a welcome get together for you tonight."

"Ry, I'm really not into that right now I'm sorry" I shook my head as I spoke from the floor I sat on surrounded by boxes. My whole life that used to be spread over a house now shoved to fit in a single room. I just spent all day moving, having a 'get together' is the last thing I feel like doing.

"I know I know, they just-" she started.

"Want an excuse to hang out and drink?" I took a wild guess. At finishing her sentence.

She nodded before speaking "yeah, they like doing that" she sighed. "Can you just make an appearance?" She asked with hope in her voice.

"Anything for you sweetie" I put on a fake smile as I sorted through my belongings.

"Love you, babe" she smiled as she pushed off the door frame she had been leaning on.

"Love you too" she stalked off down the hall, satisfied by my answer.

Ryan and Brett's house is beautiful. A two story house with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large open floor plan down stairs and a huge backyard complete with a pool and a hot-tub that is built into the large deck. Needless to say Ryan and Brett both make good money, still I promised to pay them rent for the trouble of my intrusion into their lives.

Not long after Ryan left me alone I heard voices downstairs. Must be the neighbors. As long as Ryan and Brett have lived here they've always spoken of their neighbors being so nice and friendly. They live in a nice neighborhood unlike where I used to live where neighbors seemed to avoid one another at all costs. Still I hadn't met Ryan's neighbors seeing as my house used to be the meet, up hang out spot for us, well, now that's no more. I guess there's no time like the present to go meet these neighbors she speaks so highly of. I groaned as I stood from the floor I had been sitting on for far too long. Once standing I reached up above my head for a big stretch that was felt all the way down my back, a good kind of pain. I let my arms down with a sigh before padding off to the attached bathroom to freshen up. After brushing my teeth and straightening up my hair I slipped out of the denim short and tank top I had on and into a simple blush colored sundress. It was on the top of the pile of clothes that cover the bed I was to sleep in tonight otherwise I wouldn't have picked a dress, it is fitting however for the August heat of L.A.. Stepping out of the bedroom and venturing down the hallway, I saw the large sliding doors that lead out into the backyard open, people seem to have congregated outside on the deck.
