Jacob's parents would be arriving in less than an hour. I was re-checking everything. Every single thing had to be perfect, including me. I was pretty nervous but Jacob somehow used his sixth sense to feel what I felt. "Hey, hey, don't be so tense now, You have got to loosen up a bit. Come on, let me take you out for an ice cream." So after I got my butterscotch with caramel drizzle in a caramel-dipped cup and Jay got his choco mania ice cream rolls with cookie crumble, we went to the airport to pick them up.
We waited for what seemed like forever and I finally saw them. I nervously twirled my hair. Jacob squeezed my hand and we went to greet them. "Mom!" Jacob said hugging Mrs. Holden. "Oh son, how good to see you!" I stood there smiling as I witnessed the family embracing each other. Finally, Bruce glanced at me and said, "Long time no see Savannah! May I say you look like a fine young lady?" "Thank you, Mr. Holden! You look bril-" I was cut short. That's when I saw him. Hugo Holden. He was around 6'1 feet. Taller than Jay. Jacob was 5'10, but it worked for me since I was only 5'6. He was blonde with green eyes and freckles on his rosy cheeks. I just realized that this was my first time meeting him. "Hey, brother," He said in his deep British voice. "Go-go! God, it's been too long!" Go-go? How cute! I thought and giggled "Don't call me that" Hugo said fixing his death gaze on me. I immediately stopped.
We went home and I started making dinner—triple cheese lasagna with side salad and drinks. I called Jay to help me serve. "What, she needs help serving food for three people?" I heard Hugo say shamelessly. I ignored him. We brought out our best plates and served everything. "I'm sorry, I can't have this American version of my favorite Italian concoction." "What do you mean?" I asked him somewhat skeptical. "I mean, I can't have you ruin my favorite dish by throwing in a ton of cheese and making it less authentic. Anyway, I can't eat this much cheese and calories in one go. I'm lactose intolerant and I have a body image to maintain." He said mocking my American accent. "Hugo!" Jacob said. "What? I'm only thinking of what's best for us little brother." "It's fine. Would you like some salad then monsieur?" I retaliated in a Brit accent. He looked at me as if he were disgusted. I suddenly had a horrible gut feeling that I had ruined my first meeting with my future brother-in-law. Also, I'd ruined dinner for everyone.
After dinner, Jacob dragged me in a room and said, "Hey, you okay? I know my brother can be a pain, but we need to ace this for now. Please try to get along with him." "Alright," I sighed.
Then we went out for drinks. I poured everyone I glass of red vine. "That's enough!" Hugo exclaimed when I had just started to pour. "You didn't have to scream so loudly," I muttered. "What was that?" "Nothing"
"So, mum, dad, can we please, finally have your blessings?" "Yes, son. You two can get married." Bruce said. "You two really do love each other and have waited for so long, so, I don't see why not. Also, Savannah dear, I was wondering if we could meet your parents tomorrow since we're only here for the weekend." "Of course Mrs. Holden!" ""Call me mom," I felt so happy. Everything was finally fixed. Only, Hugo sighed sadly. I wondered if it was because it was his little brother getting married before him or something else.
The next day, we went to my parent's house. "Ma!" I embraced her when I saw her. "This is Jacob's family. This is Bruce, Paula and Hugo. And these are my parents, Cassandra and Austin." I hesitated a bit before saying his name. I wondered what he would do that day. "Hello! So nice to finally meet you all!" My mom said shaking Paula's hand. "Hi there, you've raised a charming young lady." Well I technically raised myself. The mothers chatted for a while about us and the dads talked about other things. Finally, the topic of marriage of raised. "I am stoked that my daughter has found a boy that treats her well." My mom said. "Well, I think Savannah deserves it. If everything's all right, I think we should hold the marriage in August." Bruce said. August was only 3 months away. I thought. But I didn't want to wait too long so I agreed. "Alright then, it's settled! The wedding will be held in August." My dad said. I hugged Jay happily. The next day, Bruce, Paula and Hugo left and Jacob and I started discussing about the wedding arrangements, the decoration, the venue, the invitations, the cake, and most importantly, THE DRESS.
