"I would've called someone."
"I highly doubt you would've called someone." Jersey's thankful that Cali doesn't believe him, though he would never admit that to anyone. Not even himself.
Jersey glared at Cali, but he knew it held no conviction. The sensation of Cali's lithe, gentle fingers holding his arm in place was soothing, relaxing. The way he cleaned his bleeding wounds as if he actually cared about him.
No.
He couldn't like him, nevermind love him. Maybe he should've just jumped off the Onondaga or the Washington Bridge instead of the Golden Gate. The urge to pull away from Cali flared in his chest. Cali's touch was gentle and caring.
Jersey felt sick to his stomach. He needed to get away from him. He shouldn't be burdening anyone else with his problems. Yet, he couldn't will his body to move away from Cali. It was like he was glued to his place. His eyes followed Cali's every movement, his vision wavering.
He thought he was going to die on that bridge so downing fourteen bottles of alcohol seemed like a good idea. Now, he wasn't so sure.
"Done." Cali announced softly as he gently patted his injured wrist. He could feel Cali staring at him, but he couldn't bring himself to look back. He was too ashamed of himself.
"Hey," Cali started, his voice so soft he barely heard it over the rain. Hah. Rain in California was unusual, but this entire situation was unusual, "can you look at me?"
Jersey swallowed. He felt like his throat was closing up. He had nothing to be afraid of, right? He took a deep breath and looked up at Cali. His gaze was so gentle and worried. He couldn't bear it. It wasn't just pity anymore or it didn't seem like pity to him anymore. Did he actually care? Cali wasn't asking why he did what he did. Honestly, Cali hadn't asked him anything other than if he was okay.
"Hey, you know your kids need you. We need you." Cali assured, rubbing his wrist in a circular motion. The others didn't even like him. Yet, he believed him. Why? Tears welled up in his tears and he took a strangled breath in, trying to hold back a sob.
However, his desperate need to maintain composure vanished once Cali held his arms out in a hug. He hadn't hugged anyone in a long time. The last time he knew he had hugged someone was at least fifty years ago. He felt safe in Cali's strong, yet gentle arms as they curled around him.
Cali didn't say anything as he sobbed in his arms. Jersey appreciated it. He didn't want to hear anything, but the rain and his sobs. He was also thankful Cali didn't mind his shirt getting soaked. All Cali did was rub his back in the same circular motion he did on his wrist and ran his fingers through his hair.
It felt like hours before Jersey stopped sobbing so much. However, in reality, it was probably only about two hours. He felt so tired afterwards. Maybe because he had just cried his heart out in the arms of a person he didn't know well. Cali kept running his fingers through his hair.
It was calming, soothing. He could feel himself relaxing. Jersey nuzzled his face into Cali's chest and felt himself falling asleep.
Something warm and soft pressed against his forehead, "You are enough, Jerz. Remember that."

Hi, y'all. I hope this also compensates for not updating any of my fics. The title is after a song, You Are Enough by Citizen Soldier. Go check out their music! I love it. You Are Enough is one of my favorites. This may not be as good as my others because I pulled an all-nighter and I'm running on sugar because I ate a chocolate bar before this. I hope you enjoyed!
