It was a warm night in June, to many other families it was just an unusually warm night. However, to the Wayne family, it was something special. Martha Wayne was in labor, this was her second child, a sibling for her four-year-old son Bruce.

Bruce was the only one unhappy about having a new sibling. It was typical of him to get jealous of sharing attention with others. Now he was going to have to for the rest of his life.

It was a rather long labor for Martha as her new child didn't seem to want to enter the world. Despite this small complication, Martha gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby girl. Martha held her daughter with a smile as Thomas looked down at them as a proud father of two.

"What do you want to name her Martha?" Thomas asked with a soft tone so as not to scare his new Daughter.

Martha looked down into her daughter's bright blue eyes, she wasn't crying instead she let out a giggle. This giggle made Martha smile and feel hopeful about her daughter's future. That's when Martha knew exactly what to name her little girl.

"Hope," Martha said softly with a smile at her daughter.

"Hope Wayne," Thomas said with a smile "Come meet your sister Bruce"

"I don't want to," he said, upset.

"Give him time Thomas," Martha said, holding Hope.

Thomas left Bruce alone as he picked up his new Daughter. The fatherly instinct to protect his daughter hit as he held her. With the small beautiful Bundle in his arms and that beautiful smile from the newborn infant, Thomas felt extremely proud.

"Bruce, you are a big brother now," Martha said to her son.

"I don't want to be," Bruce said, crossing his arms and pouting.

"Well you are, and Hope will need someone to protect her," Martha said softly to Bruce.

"I don't want to protect Her," Bruce said, upset, he didn't like this right now.

"As a big brother your job is to protect your little sister, she will need you, Bruce," Thomas said sternly as he looked down at Bruce.

Bruce looked at his little sister and saw her as a person, not as something to be jealous of. Instead, he truly saw her as his sister, someone who needed him and someone he could share his parents with. At that moment Bruce accepted his little sister and he smiled at her.

"I'll Protect you Hope. It's my job as your big brother" he said proudly to his little sister.

Hope responded with a giggle and a smile, too young to understand the power of those words. That was the moment a bond was formed between the two children, a bond that would last a lifetime. The bond of two siblings, and the unconditional love that follows.
