Friday

It was Monica's last day being an administrative assistant. Although she was sad, she was very excited to start her new job Monday. Yesterday she had drove herself to work since she'd be working extra late, and didn't want Emmanuel to be waiting for her. Hs told her he would take her today and she didn't complain.

She had just got in the car and waited for Emmanuel to get in the car. He didn't speak to her like he usually did but she brushed it off.

Once he got in, he still didn't speak. Sighing Monica spoke up.

"Um hello?? Good morning to you too." She said folding her arms.

"Morning." He said keeping it short. Monica rolled her eyes and pulled out her phone trying ti keep herself calm.

"What's your problem?" She asked him. He ignored her and she chuckled to herself shaking her head. She was so tired of his wishy washy attitude. He was just cooking for her and worried about her.

She doesn't even know why she thought anything would go anywhere in the first place. He was twice her age, everyone at the church would probably look at them wrong, and they probably just aren't meant to be. And she couldn't forget the fact his wife- well ex wife, she way prettier than she was and had it all. Trying to keep herself from crying since she was already emotional, she put in her headphones and looked out the window.

Once they arrived to her job, Emmanuel unbuckled his seatbelt to get out but she stopped him.

"I don't need you to open the door for me, nor take me to work anymore." She grabbed her wallet and grabbed a 20 dollar bill, tossing it at him. "I'll call an uber to get me after work." She grabbed all her things and got out the car, and Emmanuel got out.

"Monica." He said. She ignored him, just like he did to her and started walking towards the entrance. He gently grabbed her arm to try and stop her but she snatched it away.

"Leave me alone." She grumbled continuing to walk to the front. Her coworkers saw everything that just happened and scrambled before she came in the building. As soon as she clocked in she went to put her stuff down, but saw her boss standing in her office.

"Monica, there's a meeting in Room 345, come there ASAP when you finish." She said walking out before giving Monica a chance to respond. She placed her stuff down, and started to wonder what was going on. Her boss's tone sounded very serious and she was hoping everything was okay.

Making her way to the conference room, she saw the lights were off. She shrugged and opened the door. Walking in she turned on the lights.

"SURPRISE!" Everyone yelled. She smiled and tears started to fall down her face. Her boss and coworkers threw her a going away party and she couldn't be more happier for their love and support. Making her way to everyone, she hugged and thanked them, and ate the breakfast provided for her.

They all shared memories, gave stories about Monica, and just celebrated her. She was happy that she was surrounded by love and knew she could always come back, and count on them to help her out whenever.

The end of the day

Monica ordered an uber a few minutes before clocking out so she could immediately leave. She was hoping Emmanuel wouldn't show up because she didn't want to deal with him anymore. Thankfully she got in the uber before Emmanuel could even put his car in park to wait on her.

Emmanuel sighed and knew he was wrong. He was dealing with so much internally, he took it out on Monica and he hated he did that but why? He couldn't understand why this upset him so much. They were just church members...right?...

Saturday

Once Monica got home yesterday, she had immediately showered, and opened all the gifts from her now ex coworkers. She smiled and sighed. She still couldn't believe yesterday was actually the last day at her job. She would now be doing physical on hands training for nursery at a pediatric hospital.

Seeing that it was only a little after 7, she decided to take a short nap before starting on some of her homework for next to get it out the way.

A few hours went by, and Monica woke up to her phone vibrating. She ignored it and it finally stopped buzzing. She rolled over to quickly check the time seeing it was 10. She rolled back over and started to fall back asleep but her phone started to vibrate again. Groaning she rolled over and answered the phone without looking to see who it was.

"Hello." She grumbled.

"Monicaaaaa." Emmanuel slurred making her eyes shoot open.

"Are you drunk?" Monica asked him, a frown upon her face. All she could hear was music blaring in the background, and a few other male voices.

"Yeah." Emmanuel said laughing loudly.

"Bye Emmanuel."

"WAIT!" He yelled before she could hang up. "I'm sorry Monica. I- I- I should not have treated you that way. I'm sorry. I am so sorry." He slurred making her shake her head.

"Hey E, give me your phone bro!" She heard a man yell in the background. The phone hung up and she took the phone off her ear staring at it for a while. Deep down she wanted to accept that apology, but she knew she couldn't. It was time for her to move on. She was tired of the way he acted towards her, tired of putting herself down, and just TIRED. She turned off her phone and immediately got to working on her homework.

It was time to let go and find someone else.

And that's exactly what she would do.
