Interviews With Mcyt Fanfic Writers

14. SoftMinecraftFan

SoftMinecraftFan is a bit of a smaller writer but they have a good Ethdubs book called Protector (I suggest reading >:)

Here's my interview with them :D

Question 1: How'd you stumble across mcyt and start writing? I watched various Minecraft Youtubers from about the of age 9 to 13, such as Aphmau, LDShadowlady, Dangthatsalongname, LaurnZside, etc. I remember seeing the fandom side of Minecraft with MyStreet when I was 12, but I didn't want to write anything about it at the time. I don't think it was until I got really into Rooster Teeth and discovered Achievement Hunter that I started writing MCYT fanfiction. However, I only wrote a single Achievement Hunter fic, before eventually discovering the Dream SMP, which is what really drew me into the MCYT fandom and fanfiction space.

Question 2: Do you ever think of doing something else? Maybe writing original stories or maybe even stepping away from Wattpad and moving on with your life? Yes! My other account focused on non MCYT related fanfics and fan stories, so I guess I do more than writing Minecraft fanfiction. In the past, I actually wanted to be an author as a career, but now after a couple unsuccessful original book attempts, my plans of writing an original book have died down a lot.

There's not really a demand for it (which is fine, because you should write whatever makes you happy, but it's just so different from what I write on my account and I don't think it would be well received if I did want to write one) and I've already made peace with the possibility of never making money or professional gain off my writing. (Which was my intention when I first decided to write original fiction.) I get more personal satisfaction from being a hobbyist writer anyways, because I feel like being a professional writer would be too stressful for me.

As for stepping away from Wattpad, I don't think I would ever do that. At least, not permanently. I always come back, even after a long hiatus or break, which I usually take after reaching a low motivation or burnout point. Writing fanfiction is a huge comfort for me because I love the interactions from people and chance to display my creativity. So unless I achieve instant popularity on YouTube, I'll come back to Wattpad. :)

Question 3: If you're comfortable with it, would you mind telling me a bit about your home life? Do you enjoy time with your family or is it hard? And do they know about your Wattpad life? SKIPPED

Question 4: Do you share the fact that you're on Wattpad in your life, such as at school, or do you keep it under wraps? My close friends know I write on Wattpad, but only my ride or die best friend knows I write MCYT fanfiction. (Some of my other friends don't have the best impression of the MCYT fandom, so I'm afraid to share this account with them.) My family doesn't know and they most likely never will.

Question 5: Any plans for the future with your writing? Maybe any upcoming stories? I'm hoping to achieve weekly updates with Protecter in the future. As for upcoming stories, I have a lot of fics in my drafts and on the shelf. Most of them are in the early stages, but I do have a Cletho fic that is halfway ready and I'm hoping it will see the light of day soon. I also have another big fic (like Protecter big) that is in the works that might happen after Protecter gets to the halfway point or the 2/3rds point. But we'll see what happens.

Question 6: Are there any big mistakes that you regret in your life or anything you wish you can go back and change? SKIPPED

Question 8: How'd you start writing your Ethdubs fanfic 'Protector'? It was back when Last Life had just ended and I was a very heartbroken Ethubs fan. I knew I wanted to write something Ethubs—I tried writing a "fix it" AU, a mermaid AU, a zombie AU... and many others that I couldn't really get into. I wasn't really in my element, per say. The fic ideas that I tried were so unfamiliar to me and I felt like I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. Then I got a thought. I that thought I equated Etho owing Bdubs a life (from Bdubs not killing him as the Boogeyman) to guarding Bdubs life, and then boom! Protector was born! I guess something about Protector just managed to stick with me and because of that I've been able to work on it for as long as I have.
