Tommy sat at his desk, staring at the amber liquid as he swirled it in his glass. He knew Danny was still alive, but it still hadn't made it any easier seeing the look in his eyes before he pulled the trigger of the gun aimed at his friend's head.
Today had been a fucking mess.
Aunt Polly and Arthur walked into the room and took a seat in the chairs before Tommy's desk. The man behind the desk finished off his drink, kissing his teeth as the smooth liquor spread a warmth through his chest.
"Alright," Aunt Polly began, "today was another day from hell. I'll give you that, but it's not over yet." She eyed her nephew sat across the desk. "Tommy, you're going to explain this fucking business with these notes." She dropped another sealed note onto the desk in front of him.
Placing his lit cigarette into the tray beside him, Tommy silently opened up the note and read it, not missing the tear drop stain in the lower corner.
Finished reading it, Tommy set the note on his desk, picked up his cigarette, and leaned back in his chair to think a moment.
Aunt Polly leaned forward and snatched the note up while Arthur stood to pour himself a glass of his own.
"Sending my sincerest sympathies for the loss of Mr. Danny.
He was a brave man and deserved better.
Miss. A"
Aunt Polly read aloud, handing the note to Arthur to read as he passed by. "Mind telling me who the hell Miss. A is and how she's aware of Peaky fucking Blinders business?"
Tommy stared out the window of his office into the darkness beyond. He weighed the details in his mind; considered the hand of cards he currently held in regards to the notes.
Coming to a decision, Tommy nonchalantly responded, "I haven't the faintest idea who she is."
Resting his elbows on the desk, cigarette still pinched between fingers, Tommy smiled to himself. Clearly Miss A doesn't know everything. She believes Danny to be dead, as she should.
What bothered the man was the tear drop stain. Had she cried for Danny? Had she known him closely enough to have cried for the man? It didn't sit well with Tommy that someone he wasn't aware of could be so closely tied to the Peaky Blinders and Shelby Family.
"Well, thank you for the condolences, Miss A," the Shelby woman noted, "But what about the other cryptic messages from this morning? What's that about?"
"That's her method of communication." Tommy began.
"Come again?" Arthur raised an eyebrow as he took another swig from his glass.
"She only sends short cryptic or to the point notes."
"How many?" Polly asked.
"This," Tommy holds up Danny's note between his fingers, "will be the seventh since I've returned home."
Tommy unlocked and slid open the top drawer of his desk. He gathered the small stack of notes and tossed them onto his desk, sliding the drawer back shut.
Polly picked up the small pile and began to read through the notes, Arthur gazing over her shoulder.
"The medicine for John's boy? Ada's being bullied? Grace mingling with a copper? Bloody hell, Tommy. What the fuck is this?" Arthur bellowed in an agitated state.
"Keep your shirt on, Arthur. One thing at a fucking time." Polly called out to the ruffled man. "So you don't know this Miss. A? Then how the hell does she know so much about the goings on of this family?"
