Molly's POV
"Will you guys slow down? I'm out of breath!" Carter complains from behind the group.
"Stop whining, we're almost there." Cassandra answers, fixing her big backpack.
It's around 6 in the afternoon and we're walking through the woods, looking for the best place to put our tents. The air is slightly cooler than usual but the sun is still shining through the leaves of the tall trees that are surrounding the path we are currently on.On Monday, Cassandra and Ryan suggested we go camping in a forest half an hour away from our city. How they got us to agree to this, given the fact that it's mid September, I truly don't know. We left our cars at a gas station two hours away from the place that we are now in, carrying all our stuff in backpacks and the tents in our hands.
"This is it!" Ryan opens him arms, showing us a patch without trees, with enough space for us to place everything down. In the middle there are also some rocks, placed in a round shape, signaling that there have been campers here in the past.
"Me and Ryan used to come here a lot with our ex friend group." Cassandra explains, placing her backpack down.
We start assembling our tents as we listen to more of Cassandra's stories about her trips with Ryan. I struggle a little bit with my tent, but I figure out how to put it up right with the help of the instructions.
Hazel rambles about something and we all suddenly stop moving, looking in Carter's direction. She seems to notice because she stops talking and looks at him too.
"What?" he asks confused, looking at us.
"Why the fuck did you bring a pot, Carter?" Elliot asks him amused, crouching down next to his tent.
Everyone starts laughing as he tries to explain his reasoning, saying that we can't survive on canned food and other bullshit.
By the time we are finished with everything, the sun has started setting down, so Otis and Ryan head out to chop some trees for the campfire.
The girls and I squish together on a log that we placed near the campfire as we try to warm ourselves up, since the air was getting colder.
"Oh my god, I also took my driver test with that man!" Alexis says, joining in the group's conversation about driving licenses.
"He's such a dickhead, right?" Carter says as he's laying on the ground, looking up at the sky. "He fucking took me to the most busy roundabout in the city! You know the one on-"
"Yes, yes, I know that one-" Hazel says.
"A nightmare that roundabout, I swear." Elliot chimes in as well, sitting across from us on another log.
Carter wants to say something again but we suddenly hear yelling in the distance and we all freeze.
"Was that Otis?" I ask and get up immediately, as chills go down my spine.
