Chapter 7

Lancelot slipped into a quieter room to focus on the call, attempting to steady himself as the room spun around him. 'How much have I had to drink tonight?' he thought, trying to focus his thoughts.

"Robin, it's wonderful to hear your voice again! I've missed...missed you deeply." Saint struggled to find the right words. Around Robin, he often found himself tripping over his own words, something his lover found amusing and often teased him about.

"I've missed you too Lance, look I've only got about ten minutes left tonight, but hearing your voice does wonders for my weary soul! It sounds like quite the party I'm missing too."

"Yeah, well I needed advice on something, so I called Tinder over and before I knew it, most everyone else was here as well. I'm not sure why Mustang showed up suddenly, we all knew he was busy with, with, with something sighenshee." Lancelot explained, attempting to find the courage he desperately needed that would help him convey his feelings to Robin but failing miserably.

Robin laughed at the sentence 'Something scienc-ey'. Lancelot had definitely been drinking! As his lover continued to speak, Robin couldn't help but worry as to what could be the reason for Lancelot's sudden serious tone. His mind racing in a thousand different directions all at once. Had something happened, or was Lancelot facing a problem he couldn't handle alone? 'I doubt I'd be able to leave my post early though' Robin thought bitterly, the military had very strict rules when it came to leaving an assignment early, and unless it was a true emergency it would have to wait until Robin was back.

"Robin, I need to tell you something, I love you."

Lancelot's heart pounded as he finally mustered the courage to confess his feelings to Robin. The weight of those three words, "I love you," hung in the air, and the following seconds felt like an eternity as Lancelot anxiously awaited Robin's response. The room seemed to close in around him, and his mind raced with fear that his admission might have caused more harm than good. The silence following Lancelot's confession was excruciating, each moment heightening his fear of potential rejection.

"Are you still there Robin? Please say something," he pleaded, desperation lacing his voice. The continued silence was suffocating Lancelot, he wasn't sure how much longer he could wait. Finally, Robin's voice broke through the silence.

"That's quite the statement coming from you. Forgive me if I sound taken aback; it's all a bit unexpected," Robin responded his tone a mix of amusement and genuine surprise. "When you said you had a confession to make, and in that tone, I anticipated the worst. Lancelot, I've been in love with you for a while now, but I didn't want to risk complicating things before I left on deployment.

"I had no idea," Lancelot revealed genuinely. To think I've been holding back all these months because I feared you wouldn't feel the same, or that you might not believe me, given my history before we met. I'm relieved to hear you feel the same, and please promise me you'll stay safe out there. I don't know how I would react if something happened to you now that I know where we stand."

"Lance, you know we can't promise that, but I will try to show a little more caution. We will have much to discuss when I finish my deployment. Hopefully, only another two to three months and I'll be home---but hey, I've got to go; my time is up. Tell everyone hello for me! And Lancelot? I love you."

"Robin, wait I..." The line clicked and was followed by a dial tone. 'He loves me too!?' "He loves me! He loves me!!" Saint exclaimed, turning suddenly at the sound of quiet chuckling behind him. Though his head spun, and his vision blurred, Saint managed to make out Raptor leaning against the door frame, with his arms crossed over his chest, and a smirk on his face. "Aye, you daft fool. You're just now realizing this?" Raptor pushed himself off the wall and uncrossed his arms as he guided Saint back to the living room. "Come on, Mustang wants you back in one piece." He said, steadying his fellow team member as they made their way back.

"Listen up! Now that everyone is here WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! I received a phone call from Sergeant Jones of security forces about a noise complaint. He further reported that one of my men not only mouthed off to him but also attempted to pick a fight with him. This behavior is completely unacceptable!! For the next two weeks, you will assist with base maintenance and ensure that every fucking aircraft on this base is spotless. I want to be able to see my reflection a mile away in them. You all will be taking extra guard duty as well, so if any of you had plans, you'd better cancel them. Additionally, there will be a formal written apology to Sergeant Jones from every one of you." Mustang instructed as he pointed to Tinder, Saint, The Pup, HolyGrail, and Heartmender. "Tomorrow, 0700 sharp, you will start your base maintenance by mopping the parking lots, come rain, or shine. Furthermore, I should have you all thrown in the guard house for your behavior tonight, so I better not hear any complaints! Is that understood?"

"Yes sir." The knights grumbled as they knew arguing would just make the situation worse.

"Moreover, you will tidy this place up and then wait quietly until your rides arrive. No one should be driving, and using ride services is not an option. I suspect my disciplinary measures will seem like mere child's play in comparison to what awaits you after I inform your significant others of your behavior tonight." Mustang informed the knights. A range of expressions flashed across the knight's faces at the mention of their significant other's being contacted. Some of the knight's eyes widened in fear, while other's faces noticeably paled, signifying the growing realization of how much trouble their actions had caused.
