Ch.5 rekindling

I slowly opened my eyes to find myself still snuggled up to Ev. "What time is it?" I asked myself, rolling over to look at the clock. 9:03AM. I rolled back over and gently shook Ev's shoulder.

"Wakey wakey, pretty kitty." I said sleepily.

Ev slowly opened her eyes. "I want to sleep a bit more." Ev said.

"Come on, just because I'm hiddint from the Stacked Deck doesn't mean we get to stay in bed all day." I said.

"Yes, but I wanna stay in bed with you a little longer." Ev said, pulling me close to her.

I admitted defeat. "Fine, we can snuggle for a bit longer." I said, resting my head on Ev's shoulder. A little bit would turn into one hour, then two.....I'll admit, I wanted to stay snuggled up to Ev.

"Hey, I was thinking about something." Ev said.

"What?" I asked.

"I know you're hiding from Darius and his guys, but....how about we go out tonight?"

I paused. "Ev, as much as I would love to go and do things with you, I'm at risk of dying." I said.

"They think you're already dead, so why would they look for you?"

"I.....well."

"Come on, I'll get us a rental car with tinted windows, and I'm sure Qrow would let you borrow one of his guns."

I sighed. "OK, so what do you wanna do or where do you wanna go?" I asked.

"AS long as I'm with you, I'll go anywhere." <3

"Hey, I know what we can do. There's a movie that came out last month I wanted to see. It's got two of my favorite super hero's in it."

"Sounds good to me."

"I think we should get out of bed and let Qrow and Hana know we're still alive." I said jokingly.

Ev and I got out of bed and headed downstairs. Hana was the first to notice us.

"You two slept in rather late. It's almost eleven." Hana said.

"We were up earlier, we just-

"What you and Evelyn do behind closed doors is no business of mine." Hana said reassuringly.

Ev smirked. "So eager to put our business out there, are we?" Ev teased.

"Now you know you're the one who loves to put our business out there, Mrs. Night walkies." I said.

Ev shrugged. "What's wrong with taking a walk at night?"

I blank stared at Ev. "You know what I mean." I said.

Hearing the commotion, Qrow walked into the living room.

"There you two are, we were about to send a search party."

"We slept in." I said.

"Uh huh, suuuuure."

"I don't want to hear it from you too." I said.

Qrow snickered and gave me a playful jab to the shoulder. "Lighten up, I'm only messing with you." Qrow said.

"So, you got any plans today, I mean, I know you're hiding from the Stacked Deck." Qrow said.

"Ev and I are going to the movies tonight." I responded.

"You sure, that's a good idea?" Hana asked.

"Ev's getting us a rental car with tinted windows. Also, do you mind if I borrow one of your guns, Qrow?"

Qrow thought for a second. "I suppose I'm no opposed to it."

"Good, if I see a Stacked Deck members I want to be able to shoot back this time." I said.

"Do you know how to handle a gun?" Qrow asked.

"Yes, Qrow I'm part of thr VR-.....

I cut my sentence short as my eyes went wide. I frantically dug through my pockets for my phone, I opened my contacts and clicked on Cross.

"Come on, come on, pick up." I said.

"Hello?" Cross answered.

"Cross, it's Royal."

"Hey, homie, actually, do they even say homie anymore, I'm old school." Cross asked with a chuckle.

"Cross listen, it's serious, a few days ago I got lit up by some Stacked Deck members and was put into a comma for two days, I woke up last night not knowing where the fuck I was, we need to do something about the Stacked Deck."

"That explains why you were radio silent for four days, are you sure it was the Stacked Deck?" Cross asked.

"Of course, I'm sure, same red jackets with the snake around the playing cards on the back.

"OK, I'll make some calls, see if we can get an investigation started, and Royal."

"Yeah?" I asked.

"I know how you got with F8, I'm not telling you to go in guns blazing but in all honesty if that's the route you choose to go, I'm not gonna stop you either, but you must know, the VRT won't be able to help you if you go in guns blazing."

"Why, you going to arrest me?" I asked.

"I might have to, yeah." Cross said with a mater of fact tone.

I sighed. "Can I at least take out Darius and his three lieutenants?" I asked.

"I don't knkw yet, let me do my job and I'll let you knkw if the VTT considers them an executable threat."

"Ok." I said, obviously unsatisfied.

"Take a breather for a few days, I'll bet those cat girls of yours are worried sick." Cross said.

"I'm with one of them right now." I said.

"Then what the fuck are you talking to me for, go spend some time with your woman, thays and order." Cross commanded.

"I'm above you in the VRT, remember?" I asked.

"You know what I mean, rest."

"I plan on it." I said as I hung up.

"You want to take them all out, don't you?" Qrow asked.

"I would greatly like to....taking out the Stacked Deck would solve a LOT of problems for this city." I said.

"It would, but you ending up in prison with God knows how many murder charges would be way worse, I just got you back, I don't wantnto lose you again." Ev said, a little distraught.

"Ev, relax, I'm bot stupid, I'm not gonna just throw my life away like that." I said petting her head.

"Good, I won't lose another partner, not again, please let them handle it." Ev begged.

"I will, I promise.
