"A beach!" Elina exclaimed as they arrived, her excitement palpable. Kevin nodded, watching as she ran towards the seashore, her wide smile infectious. He couldn't help but smile a little himself, quickly normalizing his expression when she glanced back at him.
"Will we take pictures of the sunset?" she asked eagerly.
"Yes, but there's something else too..." Kevin replied, his voice trailing off shyly.
"What is it?" Elina asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"It's a surprise," he said softly, avoiding her gaze.
Elina pouted but soon gave up. "Fine! Let's take pictures of the sunset and then just sit here?"
Kevin nodded, and they both began snapping photos. Soon, Elina noticed Kevin's camera pointed at her and laughed. "Dumbo! You don't need to take my pictures."
Kevin, flustered, touched the nape of his neck and looked away. "I wasn't taking your picture," he mumbled.
"Poor me~" Elina teased, laughing as she sat down. Kevin joined her, and together, they watched the sunset.
"It feels so beautiful and peaceful," Elina said, looking at the serene view in front of her.
"Yes," Kevin agreed, stealing a glance at her serene face before looking back at the horizon.
-Time skip-
The sun had set, and darkness had enveloped the beach. Elina stood up, ready to leave. "Okay, let's get going," she said, starting to walk away when Kevin gently grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
"What happened?" she asked, turning back to him.
"There's something left," Kevin said, clutching his bag nervously.
Elina's eyes widened in surprise as she followed him to a secluded part of the beach. When he stepped aside, revealing the glowing water, her frown turned into a wide, excited smile. "Is this a plankton beach?!"
Kevin nodded, and Elina hugged him tightly. "Thank you! I always wanted to visit this!" She quickly let go, but Kevin was left flustered, a light shade of pink coloring his cheeks. Elina, with teary eyes, walked towards the water.
Kevin watched her from afar, his heart racing. He took his camera and captured a few moments of Elina's joy. But when he zoomed in, he saw tears on her face. Concerned, he quickly set his camera down and approached her.
While Elina's point of view
I couldn't believe my eyes as I saw a plankton beach in front of me, I felt a rush of emotions within me. I was so happy and emotional as it brought me memories of my childhood which I always wished for.
I was so glad and thankful for Kevin.
"Thank you!! I always wanted to revisit this!!" I said and then went to the water wanting to touch the lighted water feeling the urge to recall my memories. Memories with my parents...
It was then that I realised that I had come here before with my parents, and the last time I visited this beach was two days before my parents had passed away...
Despite their voices fading from my mind and their touch of warmth erased, these memories felt vivid again. It was as if my parents were here, somewhere in these waters, watching over me. The tears flowed, a part of me wanting to stay with them in this ocean filled with our memories.
Third person's point of view
Kevin reached Elina and gently cupped her face. "Is something wrong?" he asked, his voice full of concern. Elina looked up, her eyes brimming with tears. Without a word, Kevin wiped them away with his thumb and pulled her into a hug. Elina cried quietly, finding solace in his embrace.
Kevin didn't ask for an explanation or try to console her with words. He simply held her, offering the comfort she had always yearned for during moments of loneliness. Despite his own uncertainties and lack of experience in comforting others, he somehow knew exactly what she needed.
And this was the start of something.
Time Skip
"I-I..." Elina started but couldn't find the words.
"It's okay. You don't have to explain anything," Kevin said, offering her a reassuring smile for the first time. Elina laughed through her tears at his awkward attempt, and Kevin felt relieved seeing her smile again.
"Thank you," she said sincerely.
Kevin nodded, returning her genuine smile with one of his own.
