I'm on my way to you (it looks like you called my phone)
Jaafar Jackson
Between school and basketball, Jaehyun gets busy and they don't see each other much. They text here and there, a funny meme or two, but it never strays too far from lighthearted conversation. And while Johnny did miss hearing rants about the newest thing that happened at practice, he had his own things to worry about.
The two still end up bumping into each other on campus...literally.
Johnny's still reeling from the collision with the flash of colors that came from his right. It takes him a second longer to register the barely there but deep voiced groan that was then followed by the dull thud of multiple things hitting the ground at once. When Johnny's vision got back into focus he realized just who he had run into...or rather, who ran into him?
Jaehyun looked incredibly stressed. Frustration was coming off of him in waves, his eyebrows so scrunched up it looked severely uncomfortable. It almost made Johnny wanna tell him that if he wasn't careful his face would get stuck that way, if it wasn't already. But when Jaehyun lifted his own gaze, mouth dropping open to say something that Johnny had a feeling wouldn't be pleasant, his eyes seemed to melt a little in recognition. His entire demeanor calming, albeit only a little.
"Funny how the world works. I was sorta looking for you," Jaehyun ends up saying after the small pause between opening his mouth and clearly deciding to change what he was going to say at the last minute.
"Only sorta?" Johnny drops down to help the other pick up his things.
"Yeah, 'cause if I didn't see you I could just send a text. You wanna come over later? I got a new game I wanna try out." Jaehyun stands up with one half of his things and holds his arms out for the part of the pile Johnny collected. He hands it over and watches as he hastily organizes it in his arms and takes a quick glance at his phone, probably for the time.
"You sure you have time for company?" Johnny asks instead and gestures at Jaehyun's...everything. To which his friend nods and rolls his eyes, but there's still a trace of a smile there.
"Yes, I have time. Five day weekend starting tomorrow, remember?"
Johnny grins. "Right, I guess I'll see you later."
"Yeah, later. I have a meeting with one of my professors right now though so I have to go." With a second glance at the time and a wave, Jaehyun rushes off.
Johnny laughs to himself and keeps on his walk to class, giving in and looking at the time himself. His eyes widened comically, as the interaction had lost him more time than he'd thought. He quickens the pace, hoping to still get to his class—the one that was still nearly across campus—on time.
(He gets there just before the door can slam directly in his face, hurrying inside under the eyes of a judging teacher. An extremely close call.)
Johnny blinks and he's with Jaehyun for the second time that day. They're walking around in the grove of trees behind his apartment building. Johnny knows well enough by now that Jaehyun needs the time to wind down from the stress of the last couple of weeks. They talk idly as they walk and look around, seeing a few different critters here and there.
"Do you smoke?" Jaehyun asks somewhat out of the blue. "You didn't at the party so I wondered is all."
"I do occasionally. No nic though."
"Same," Jaehyun says, and they watch a squirrel scamper across the path ahead of them and up into a tree. A group of birds flutter their wings and take flight from the bushes to their left and Johnny avoids stepping on a beetle.
