You got my heartbeat racing (my body blazin')

Troye Sivan

Johnny groans and not so gently drops his head on the counter. A hand is immediately placed between his shoulder blades, patting him sympathetically.

"Shift's gonna be over soon," Taeyong reminds him. Johnny just groans again, because that's part of the issue. With the semester starting back up again and short winter days demanding so much out of him, all he does after waking up in the morning is countdown the hours until he can crawl back into bed with his bundle of blankets and Jason the snake staring at him while he sleeps. It's a relief that their busiest hour at the cafe just passed and there's a slightest hint of peace, but the closer it is to the end of his shift, the more he's reminded of the stack of homework awaiting him in his book bag. It's like teachers get bored over break thinking about how best to torture their students once everything's back in session. They have no appreciation for easing into a heavier workload.

"Kill me now."

Taeyong laughs but not unkindly. "That bad, huh?"

"I feel like years are being drained from my lifeforce." Johnny lifts his head again to look at his friend. His eyes are dark and puffy, classic college student eye bags. It's obvious just how bad Johnny's been doing the last couple of days because he didn't even notice that Taeyong's hair is yet another color. It's bright pink, a classic that he always returns to so it isn't completely abnormal that Johnny hadn't done a double take all day. But it is a testament to the stability of Taeyong's mental state, or rather the lack thereof. "What about you? Are you as swamped as you look?"

"Fuck you, I'd say I'm hiding it pretty well." Taeyong folds his arms on the counter and they both stand there with their heads resting on their arms, watching the few customers eating at the tables inside and the door ahead of them showcasing the people walking around outside. "I need a nap that lasts a good month. Bears have it good, they hibernate. Why don't we hibernate?"

"Bears also don't have to go to school their whole lives just to maybe get a good job to lift themself and their family out of debt and live out the so-called American dream."

"I can't believe you and Donghyuck were right this whole time. Fuck this human shit, I wanna be a bear. Do you think they have good gossip in their caves?" Taeyong taps his fingers against the counter and Johnny shrugs. Taeyong looks at him with a scary smile and Johnny knows what he's gonna say before he even makes a sound. "Speaking of gossip, how's Jaehyun?"

Johnny rolls his eyes. "Jaehyun's fine. What is with you? Is Doyoung not entertaining you enough lately?"

Taeyong pouts. "We haven't had time to really catch up lately, school gets in the way of tea time."

"You guys literally live together."

"So? You know how he is, always so much stuff to do. We're both way too busy to even stand in the same room, much less find time to sit around and talk shit. Maybe I can see if he's free later though..." Taeyong trails off and shakes his head. "Whatever. Doyoung still wouldn't be able to tell me anything about you and Jaehyun, so spill. When's the last time you saw him?"

Johnny thinks back and sighs when he realizes that he actually does have something that Taeyong would love to hear. "A couple of days ago, we went to see that movie I told you about."

"Ooooh, movie date, do tell."

"Don't you have customers to serve?" Johnny stands up straight, stretching and looking around the still somewhat empty cafe.

"Nope," Taeyong says, popping the 'p'. He slings an arm around Johnny's shoulders best he can with the height difference. "But you sure do. I'll take all of the details please."
