Detectives Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz, these two may seem like an unlikely pairing but over the years their bond has grown.

More recently, the two of them have begun going out together on weekends and spending more time together outside of work, sometimes its going for a coffee, or going for some drinks, sometimes it's even Amy showing Rosa books that she thinks the seemingly stone cold detective would enjoy.

This Saturday afternoon, they chose to bake together.

Amy got everything ready before she headed to Rosa's apartment, getting all of the ingredients together, printing and laminating the recipe, and of course putting that recipe in a binder.

She arrived at Rosa's apartment and rung the bell, carefully holding everything as not to drop anything.

Rosa opened the door and immediately noticed the binder in Amy's arms

"Good lord Amy, you had to put the recipe in a binder?"

"What did you expect me to do?! Have a bunch of loose pages? I don't think so."

Rosa sighed while helping Amy unpack all of the ingredients, holding back a slight chuckle at her friends organization. Even outside of work she was just as neat and just as much of a perfectionist.

Amy started carefully reading the recipe over for the hundredth time while Rosa rummaged through her drawers looking for measuring cups and everything else that they needed. The recipe was simple, just for some lemon vanilla cupcakes, but Rosa wasn't really sure she trusted Amy in the kitchen, she had tasted her food before and to put it lightly, Amy really can't cook.

"You'd better not burn my house down Santiago" Rosa scoffed, only half joking.

"Rosa!! Come on! What could possibly go wrong? I mean really, I think I've improved drastically since the last time I tried to make something for you."

"I'll be the judge of that," Rosa said through a chuckle "and was this really the best idea? I mean, neither of us really KNOW what we're doing here."

"Rosa, relax. I've watched my fair share of cooking shows. Trust me, we've got this." Amy said confidently

"Amy, they make it look way easier than it is because they're trained professionals."

"They had to start somewhere!" Amy said while she started to measure out the ingredients one by one, focusing hard on each detail of the recipe, sure she would do everything perfectly.

Amy was the one doing all of the work, Rosa helped occasionally and after almost an hour, Amy finally exclaimed "Done!! Into the oven they go! I knew we could do this!"

"Don't be so confident just yet Amy." Rosa said sternly, almost as if she was warning Amy.

Amy set the timer of the oven and put the cupcakes in, cheering a little while standing back and admiring their (her) hard work.

The girls sat together on Rosa's couch, and after a while the sweet smell of the cupcakes was overtaken by a smokey scent.

"What. Is. That." Rosa said, hiding her panic with slight anger.

"I'm sure it's nothing!!" Amy exclaimed, immediately panicked by the smell of smoke filling the air.

Smoke started emerging from the oven while Rosa ran over to it, she took the smoking pan out to her deck, the cupcakes charred and on fire while she carried them.

"Rosa!!! What are you doing?!" Amy shrieked while Rosa started spraying the pan with a hose. Putting the fire out while looking un phased and unsurprised by the situation.

Amy sighed, slightly relieved that the house didn't set on fire but also saddened by the failure of the cupcakes.

"It was going SO well!!"

"You set the oven to 450 degrees instead of 300." Rosa sighed. "Let's never do anything kitchen related again."

"Good idea."

I hope this was an alright little story! I had already written it once but it didn't publish which was really upsetting. This is my first time writing something like this so I hope it was enjoyable!
