The First Month Back

School out of nowhere decided to give us a lot of work, so this didn't get published when I wanted it to. Sorry!

Percy had been back at Hogwarts for about one month now and it had been great. Him and his roommates had decided to decorate their room differently from last year. Last year they all just pushed their beds together because they were a little homesick and it made them feel better. But now they wanted to sleep separately, except for John and Jonathan who wanted to sleep in bunk beds. They had asked Severus if that was possible and when they got there a bunk bed was in one of the corners. They had one small bookshelf each just like last year, so they could decorate it like they wanted, just like last year.

Percy was fast with claiming the window bed, there was only one window and they had decided to not sleep next to each other so that they would learn to sleep alone at hogwarts. Percy decorated his part of the room with books and put up all of his accessories in two boxes on top of the small bookshelf. He also decided to put up some drawings his friends had sent him during the summer break. He put his stuffed dog Bella on top of his bed with her head on the pillow.

The twins didn't have any choice on which bed to take, they had two bookshelves, they put their books on the shelfs and put up some posters they had got from different papers with funny pictures and quotes. They had also gotten into quidditch during their first year so they also put up some merch stuff.

Oro wished he got Percy's bed, but he was happy that he didn't get Finn's bed. He didn't really have anything to decorate with more than his books, but he liked to draw sometimes so the wall behind his bed frame would probably be full of pictures at the end of the year. For now he just put in his books and his papers and pens in the spare space.

Finn got the bed right next to the door, which meant he would hear if kids ran past their room all night long. He was very unhappy, but that's what he got when he ran into the room last. He had picked up skateboarding during the summer so after he put away all of his books he put up a lot of posters and he even bought his skateboard with him. It was a normal skateboard when he bought it, but he and his dad had put on new wheels, two hot pink and two neon green. And he and his mom repainted the bottom of it with lots of colours and patterns.

Marcus had come to give Percy his new slytherin clothes like he had promised, they catched up on what they had been doing during the summer. Percy noticed that Marcus' hair had grown a little longer, his hair was slightly wavy, he liked it.

When he showed Walnut to his friends they all lost their minds, they wanted to hold him and kept talking about how cute he was and wanted to feed him. Percy brought Walnut with him to his classes all the time, even though he wasn't allowed to. He got caught a couple of times the first few days but he soon found out how to hide him the best and was never caught again, except for ones in McGonagall's class when a Ravenclaw saw him and snitched on him. Percy also realised that Walnut really likes eggs, so even though Percy wasn't a fan of the smell he always gave Walnut half an egg at breakfast.

His classes were fun, especially his DADA and potion classes. He likes learning about new spells and new potions, his potion teacher is also Severus and he was his favourite teacher. Severus had started to read to the Slytherins in the common room, it doesn't happen often though. Percy doesn't sit in his lap anymore, Severus has moved from an armchair to the couch and Percy always sits next to him. His friends are still convinced that Percy is Severus' favourite. When he sits down to read he often calls Percy 'son' when he sits down next to him, he never calls anyone else that. Percy doesn't really get why he is his favourite, maybe it is because he sees himself in Percy. Maybe he wanted to make sure that he had some sort of parent that didn't hate him, not knowing he already has that. That was the only reason he could think of, Percy wasn't the best student or the most popular Slytherin, that was the quidditch team. But Percy had stopped questioning it, it didn't really bother anyone, other than the 'son' nickname and the hug he gave Percy the first day back he treated all Slytherins the same.

Right now he was sitting on Finn's bed doing homework with him, Percy needed help with the DADA homework. The twins were sitting on chairs in front of Oro, he was drawing and they offered to model for him. It was quiet and calm, then someone knocked on the door.

"Hello, I was told to tell you that there is a storm coming so you are not allowed to go outside today or let out your owls" The Slytherin prefect told them before closing the door and kept going to the next room. They came into everyone's room to deliver news like this all the time, no one knew why Dumbledor couldn't just do it, but no one questioned why Dumbledor never did anything.

It was a Saturday, right after lunch. They had noticed that it was a little cloudy out so they hadn't planned on going outside. Walnut had been sleeping on The end of Finn's bed but the knocking had woken him up, he started to crawl up to Percy, still very sleepy.

"Aw, did he wake you up?" Finn said as Percy picked him up and placed him in his lap. Finn stuck out his finger and scratched his little head, Walnut leaned in to it closing his eyes. When he stopped Walnut laid down and went back to sleep.

"Hey guys, there is something I have been thinking about" John spoke with a little nervousness in his voice.

"What is it?" Oro asked, looking up from his sketchbook. Everyone looked up to hear about what he wanted to say.

"I heard from a Gryffindor that he had snuck out into the forbidden forest during the night, and he said that it wasn't anything special or scary about it" He began, Jonathan looked at him with a look that said 'don't even think about it'.

He had that look when John talked about doing something that you maybe shuddent, neither of them was really a troublemaker but if one would be one it would be John. He was the one that broke their parents' rules the most, which was why Jonathan was their favourite, that only made him angry at them for having a favourite so he just broke their trust more and more. Just this summer he was caught smoking, they got mad at Jonathan too because he knew but hadn't said anything. So they were fair in that way.

"I was just wondering if you guys ever thought about why we weren't allowed to go in there?" He finished.

"No, you have a death wish and want to explore the FORBIDDEN forest" Jonathan said the word 'forbidden' very loudly and slowly so John would understand why he was being an idiot right now.

"No need to be rude, everyone has thought about it at least once," Finn said, calming Jonathan down a little.

"I used to think about it a lot in the beginning of our first year, but I lost interest in it after a while" Oro confessed.

"I never really did, but now that you mention it" Percy started to think about it. The Gryffindor could have lied about even going into the forbidden forest, but even if he did it was weird that they weren't allowed in there. No teacher ever told anyone why, and if it was dangerous then why did they put a school right in front of it.

"No, we could get expelled" Jonathan stated very harshly, he might be a jokester at times but he really liked Hogwarts and he didn't want to leave.

"That is only if we get caught" Percy said with a sly smile on his face.

"No"

They argued a little over this for nearly an hour, the longer they argued the more John, Finn, Oro and Percy wanted to go out to the forest and see what the big deal was. At the end they managed to convince Jonathan to relax and help them to make up a plan to sneak out into the forbidden forest.

They needed to figure out how the prefects went their rounds around the school at the end of the day, so they could figure out how they would get out without being caught. Because they knew they would have to go out during the night, they could get caught more easily if they tried to go during the day. Percy needed to try and convince Marcus to babysit Walnut because he didn't want him to come with them, which also meant to come up with a lie on why he needed Marcus to watch after Walnut for him. They all agreed not to tell anyone, not even their other friends about what they were planning to do, because they knew they wanted to do it. Even Jonathan had gotten onboard with the idea of exploring the forbidden forest.

They were planning everything for hours, solutions to every possible scenario that could happen, lies they would tell, and when the right time was. They decided to go the next week, that way they could figure out the perfect's routine during the week leading up to them sneaking out. So next Saturday they would go out and explore the forbidden forest and see why it was a forbidden forest.
