1984
"Go back to your room Percival, I'm trying to cook dinner so stop being in the way!" Molly screamed at him when Percy came into the kitchen.
"I was just wondering if I could go outside?" He whispered while looking down at his fingers.
"If I let you, will you get out of my way?!" The irritation in her voice filled his eyes with tears. All he could do was nood. "Then you can go"
When he got out the door the tears started to run down his cheeks fast, he saw his siblings playing tag and started to run before they saw him crying. He didn't want the twins to make a comment about how he is a crybaby or too sensitive. He was used to it but he still hated it, his siblings made it their mission to hurt him. And his parents didn't care, they never cared about him. But they always love and care about the other children, he never understood why. And that was what hurt him the most.
He ran through the woods, and after he got far away from them he stopped crying and started smiling. He started to imagine that he was running away from the villain from 'The magical castle' (one of his favorite books) and he was the hero of the story.
When he finally was by the lake he looked around for a bit, it was really beautiful here. The clear water, the small mountain, the waterfall, how it will echo when you scream and all the space he had to run around and play on.
It was a perfect place for him, he had found it when he was four after his older brothers had left him in the woods while playing hide and seek. They didn't want to babysit him, so they thought that was a good idea. When he found it he felt relaxed and he stopped crying. Since then he came here often, he could be himself there without his siblings making jokes or just being mean. His parents didn't care what really happened to him so no one asked where he was at all, one time he spent 3 days there and no one noticed.
While he was running around playing as the hero from the book, Hydra was in the water listening to the story.
Hydra had lived behind the waterfall her entire life and when she saw Percy for the first time she got worried. His face was painted with tears, he looked scared and confused, but when he sat down he stopped crying so much. She wanted to know what made him so sad so she started to read his mind. After she read his mind she wanted to swim to him but she knew she shouldn't do that.
She is one of the only merpeople left in the world, there used to be a lot but wizards and witches started to kill them in 1523 to use the merpeoples tales to make a special poison.
In 1865 it got harder to find them because there were so few of them, now there were only about 100 of them left. It was a rule to not show themself to humans, they could if they knew the human could be trusted.
For years she had watched Percy play and listened to him talk to himself about his horrible family. He didn't know she listened to every word he said, she tried to make the place as magical as possible. When he wasn't there she would use her magic to make the water as clear as possible and the nature as green as possible, in the winter she would freeze the water so he could skate on it. Seeing him smile made her happy, and when he cried about his family she wanted nothing more than to swim to him and hug Percy.
For a while she had planned to talk to him and today she got the perfect chance.
After a while of playing he sat down by the lake, closed his eyes and relaxed. At that moment she started to swim to him, she knew he could be trusted.
"Hello Percy '' His eyes widened as he saw who the calm voice came from.
"I'm Hydra" She placed a hand on her chest. Her tale and dark hair sparkled in the sun.
"Hi.." Percy answered after a few seconds.
"I have seen you here a lot. I know about your family and I want to try and make it better" Percy looked at her a little confused.
"Have you been spying on me?"
"I live here. I hear everything that happens here, I try not to but when you talk about your family I'm listening to you" She looked at him with a sad look and placed a hand on his. "You can talk to me, if you want to"
"Will you make fun of me if I do?" Percy was still a little shocked but he could see the kindness and worry in her eyes. She smiled and started to shake her head.
He started to talk to her not only about his family but also about the books he loved. He could see that she was interested in what he said. It made him so happy, he wished his family was like that.
When Percy said he didn't know how to swing she started to teach him how to, she was careful with him.
Over the next couple of months he loved her more and more, he had wanted a parent his whole life and Hydra treated him as her own. She is a better mom than Molly, then on his eighth birthday she asked him the question she had wanted to ask him for years.
"You are a wonderful kid Percy and you deserve a loving parent and I would love to be that parent." Percy looked at her with tears and hope in his eyes. "Percy, can I adopt you?"
Percy did not answer at first so she got worried he would say no, she loved this child. She knew she could give him the love he deserved. But when percy jumped in the lake and hugged her crying she knew he would be her child.
When they pulled away she gave him a little flask with a purple liquid in.
"When you drink this your DNA changes so it matches mine, but since you were born a human you will look the same except when you want to look like a merman. Do you understand?" Hydra asked softly. Percy took the bottle, nodded and drank it.
Hydra could see his eyes changing from a regular blue to a light crystal blue, they looked beautiful.
"I know you want to go to Hogwarts so you will live with the Weasleys but during the day you will be here"
"Can't I live here all the time?"
"If you want to go to Hogwarts no, you can not just disappear and turn up again people will ask questions. And you can not tell anyone about me you know what will happen"
"I know. I want to go to Hogwarts so we can go with what you said"
"Tomorrow I will teach you how to transform into a merman, you need to go and sleep. Goodnight my love"
"Goodnight mommy"
Percy hugged his new mom and ran back to the borrow to sleep. And for the first time in a long time, he walked into the house with a smile on his face.
