Flashback continues

The next morning came soon and everyone were assembled in dining hall. They were having breakfast when suddenly maa begum came up with an announcement.

Maa begum: well there's an announcement. Murtasim and haya will be getting engaged soon.

What followed was sheer silence. Meerab felt  breath stuck in her throat and tears were accumulating. She looked towards murtasim who himself was shocked with this announcement. He wanted some time before his mother announced this matter. He needed to make meerab understand about the issue but this was unexpected. Aneela and waqas were neutral towards the announcement while mariyam felt sad for meerab. Haya was the only happiest one among them. Murtasim stood up immediately and left towards his room. He couldn't face meerab and maintain the eye contact with her anymore.

Mariyam: maa ye kya hai? Bhai ki mangni.

Maa begum: haan aur haya se.

Mariyam: aap galat kar rahe hai maa.

Maa begum: mariyam tumhe kuch nahi pata hai toh tum chup raho. Mangni ki tayaarion mein mujhe madad karo bas.

Mariyam: nahi. Mein koi madad wadad nahi karungi. Mujhe iss rishte se hee napasand hai. Aap bahut pachtaoge maa.

Saying this mariyam dashed out of dining hall. Meerab stood up and followed murtasim. She needed answers from him. How could he even think of getting married to someone else when he promised her whole life with him.

Other side haya followed mariyam and held her hands. Mariyam jerked her hands away from haya and gave her a stern look.

Haya: meri shaadi hai mariyam. Tum udaas kyu ho.

Mariyam: ye tum mujhse pooch rahe ho. Haya tumhe pata hai murtasim bhai tumse pyaar bhi nahi karta hai. Phir bhi.

Haya: ab nahi karta hoga. Par aage karega na.

Mariyam: tum kisi aur ki pyaar aur khushi ko cheen kar khush kaise rahogi haya?

Haya: mariyam..

Mariyam: bas. Na Bhai khush hai, aur na koi bhi. Bas tum apni manmani karti raho aur khush raho. Par ek baat yaad rakhna haya tumhari ye pagalpan aur zid ki vajah se tum apni zindagi barbaad kar rahi ho.

Haya stared at mariyam blankly and left from there. While mariyam was worried about meerab. How could she take this issue. She saw how much meerab loved her brother and now everything is going to drain.

Meerab opened murtasim's room door and locked it. She found him looking outside window and stepped forward.

Meerab: Murtasim

Murtasim knew she was here. He knew she would follow him for answers. He needed to be strong and make her understand. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and turned around to face her.

Murtasim: hmm.

Meerab: what is all this murtasim? Your engagement?

Murtasim: haan maa announced the same.

Meerab: I know that. But you went to have a talk with your mother about us murtasim. Then this engagement....

Murtasim: vo she didn't agree. So..

Meerab: and you accepted what she said? You promised you would make her agree and accept our relation na.

Murtasim: haan I did. But she was adamant meerab and moreover it was my father's promise to anwar chacha so we are bound by it.

Meerab: but she never said that before.

Murtasim: even I didn't knew till yesterday and when I got to know i thought of fulfilling it.
