Winter

There's a icy chill that claws my heart,
It runs through my veins,
Like an animal escaping death!
Sometimes I wonder when this winter will end,
It's been years and it still seems to be snowing.

I don't want this 'gift',
But it seems like it didn't come with a receipt,
Feeling everything so strong,
It's not the blessing it seems,
It's a curse in disguise,
Waiting to capture your soul,
And swallow it whole!

My brain tells me something,
Yet my heart tells me another,
Sometimes it's cold and sad like a winter blizzard!
Other times it's angry and fiery like a desert in summer!
Or maybe it's everything and nothing at the same time.

Can you have summer in winter?
Maybe you can,
Maybe you can't,
But happiness grows in the most unexpected places,
Like a flower sprouting from the crack in the concrete.

We can all find that flower in our concrete,
If we nurture the soul even in the freezing cold,
We can one day have our day,
One we never imagined we would,
In the gentle warmth of spring.
