When Katsuki wakes up the next morning, it's not to screaming or yelling or the sound of his home being torn apart by a rabid teenager. It's dark and warm and he's comfortable. In his sleepy haze, he almost doesn't register the presence of another body, right there in his arms. He doesn't question it, only nuzzles further into its heat, hearing a soft chuckle as he does so. That's the moment his eyes snap open and he pulls his head back, staring straight in the beautiful eyes of Izuku Midoriya, a 20 year old pro hero and his fiance.
He's smiling at him, and Katsuki is still trying to figure out whether this is all a dream or not. He reaches out to hold his cheek and Izuku melts right into the touch without ever breaking eye contact. It feels soft and warm and perfect and before he can comprehend it all, his vision is blurring with tears. Katsuki buries his face back into Izuku's neck, inhaling his scent and wrapping his arms around him, pulling him in even closer. He feels solid and firm and real and Katsuki is still having a hard time believing any of this.
"Good morning to you too, Kacchan," the other spoke, amusement evident in his voice. "I'm sorry for worrying you."
"Damn right," Katsuki choked out, clinging onto the man he loved with all his might. He was back. Izuku was really back. He was 20 years old again, muscled and scarred and combing his fucked up fingers through his hair as Katsuki listened to his heartbeat. "Fuck... Fuck. I missed you so much."
"I know," Izuku hummed, the vibrations in his chest feeling weird on his ears.
"I love you," Katsuki mumbled, closing his eyes for a moment so he could just feel him. Feel Izuku's body beneath his fingertips, feel his hand in his hair, feel his breath against his forehead, his heart beating in his chest, the rhythmic rise and fall of it all. To feel he was here, alive and well, in a shape Katsuki had longed for for so long.
"I love you, too," Izuku said. "I'm sorry you had to take care of me for so long... I know you didn't get to work in the field as much so your ranking will probably-"
"You remember?" Katsuki asked, looking up again, red connecting to green in the dim lighting of their bedroom.
"Yeah," Izuku nodded with a soft smile. "I remember how gentle Kacchan was with me. How much he cared for me. How much I loved spending time with you in every part of my life."
"I was shit at taking care of you," Katsuki mumbled, looking away again, only for Izuku to place a hand on his cheek, guiding his face back to him.
"You were wonderful," Izuku stated. "You're amazing, Kacchan, and I don't deserve you."
"I made you cry," Katsuki pointed out, new tears welling up in his eyes. "I hurt you and made you panic and-"
"You made me laugh and smile and comforted me when I was sad," Izuku added. "You told me everything would be alright, that I was strong and beautiful and yours. You told me you loved me through both actions and words and all while I was being a burden to you."
"You could never be a burden to me," Katsuki hissed, remembering what Izuku said about his rank tanking now that he'd been on desk duty for so long. "I don't care about my rank or being a hero if I cannot share it all with you, understand? You're the most important thing in the world to me and I want to share the rest of my life with you no matter what. I want us to grow old and to wake up next to you like this every damn morning until I die."
"Sounds like a marriage proposal," Izuku joked, but Katsuki could tell he was touched either way. "I feel the same way about you, Kacchan."
"Let's get married," Katsuki hummed, kissing Izuku's neck and working his way up. "Mine till death do us part and all that shit."
