The only thing I used to know was how to run from things. Now I was running for something; someone. Someone I didn't know; someone I couldn't live without. My mate.
I didn't know his name, or where he was from, but I was going to find him; no matter what.
~Two Years Earlier~
"Michael, do you know what day it is?" I asked.
"No. What?"
"The day before your birthday! That means that tomorrow, you find your mate."
Michael smiled warmly at me. He grabbed my chin, making sure that I was looking at him. "Hopefully it's you," he whispered before capturing my lips in his. Our lips moved in perfect sync, and butterflies were in my stomach. Even though we've been dating for six months, he still made me get butterflies.
His tongue flicked over my lips, and I eagerly opened them and our tongues mingled together. I pulled away and smiled at Michael. "If you wait, there'll be more for later."
His beautiful green eyes flashed with an emotion I couldn't put my finger on. "Okay. Tomorrow, then."
"Okay. I'll be at your house bright and early!" I announced.
"Okay, see you later."
"Bye." I waved at Michael while I walked away, my blonde hair blowing in the wind. When I got home, my house was empty. I assumed that everybody was out, having fun.
"Thanks for leaving me here. It's not like I would mind!" I shouted sarcastically into the empty house. "Looks like another movie marathon tonight."

The next morning I woke up at six o'clock to my brothers fighting. I groaned and turned over in my bed, trying to ignore the noise. Ten minutes later, they stopped and I sighed in relief.
I got out of bed and hopped into a hot shower, which lasted a good fifteen minutes before my dad came pounding on the door.
"Haley! You've been in there long enough! It's time to get out!"
"Okay!" I yelled back.
Geez, can't a girl get a break?
I turned off the water and dried myself off, then went to my room and got dressed. I pulled on a white lacey shirt and a bright pink skirt over it. I stepped into my tan heels and put my purse over my shoulder to match it. I straitened my hair and put on a little bit of makeup and grabbed a banana on my way out the door. It was seven o'clock when I made my way over to Michael's house, and I was so excited, I couldn't stop smiling.
Fifteen minutes later I walked up the steps to his front door and knocked with a huge smile on my face. Michael's mom answered the door.
"Hi Haley! How are you? Come in, come in!" She said, ushering me inside.
"I'm good, Mrs. Lee. Where's Michael?"
"He's upstairs in the shower. He'll be down in a few. Would you like some breakfast?" She asked, eyeing my banana with disgust.
I chuckled. "Sure. That'd be awesome."
She smiled brightly and continued making her pancake batter. Mrs. Lee poured the batter on the grill and put some chocolate chips on them. Once she made a big enough stack, she turned off the stove and gave me a plate with three pancakes on it.
All of the condiments were on the table and I smeared my pancakes with butter and poured strawberry syrup on top of them all. I took a huge bite just as Mrs. Lee asked me a question.
