Camilla Alvarez

"GET READY AND TELL MAYA TO GET READY TOO," my father demands. He only momentarily looks at me before attending back to his papers aggressively.

"For what?" I question but he only grunts in response. "Papa?!" I press more agitated this time.

"Camilla I really don't have the time right now." He's fully staring at me now and his eyes are a pinkish red. "Get ready and put on a dress," he sighs when I remain standing in front of his desk, "Now, and don't make me ask again."

I open my mouth to speak again but decide against it and leave his study slamming the door behind me not caring what reprimands I will be getting later. It doesn't matter anyway. I'm moving out of the house in under 3 months. I have everything arranged, the house, the money, the bills. Thats what I was planning on telling him but I guess it will have to wait until tonight.

I make my way to my sisters room knocking more aggressively than intended. "Maya open up it's me," I say with a sigh.

She opens the door after a few and rubs her eyes and I take in her appearance. She's wearing her silky nightwear and a black bonnet on. She was always the more prettier one out of both of us. We have very different appearances due to the fact that we both have two different moms.

But both dead.

We've been each others rock since we were little the only people we can depend on since our father shelters us and keeps us away from everything.

She narrows her eyes at me and yawns, "This better be important I was having a great dream about me and Michael b Jordan."

I roll my eyes at her, "Of course you did, but I have news," I say and her mood immediately changes.

"What is it?" she inquires.

"Its papà," I state and she raises an eyebrow, "Está siendo insoportable y dice que tenemos que prepararnos para algo." I add pinching the bridge of my nose in annoyance of remembering our conversation. (He's being insufferable and says we need to get ready for something)

"Mierda," she curses, "I have plans cam."

I widen my eyes in acknowledgement. I forgot it was her 2 year anniversary with her boyfriend today and I immediately felt sympathy for her because father would give her no choice but to go with him.

She turns on her heels typing on her phone aggressively and then she throws her phone on the bed with tears in her eyes. I rush to her to make sure shes okay wrapping my arms around her in my embrace.

"What happened?" I asked leaning back to wipe her tears softly from her cheeks.

"He-" she stops herself, "He broke up with me."

"Oh Maya," I bring her closer in my arms when she cries harder. "Shh it's okay." Usually it's her comforting me, she's a great big sister and always so strong but we all have our weaknesses.

"He said that I'm always canceling but its not me it's papà," she clenches her jaw at that and shakes her head into my shoulder.

I rub both her shoulders in an attempt to calm her down. "It's okay I'm here," I coo trying to make her feel better.

"I'll get ready," she pulls away wiping her nose. "We both know how he gets when he waits."

I only nod silently realizing she needs her space. I wipe
the last of her tears telling her I love her and leave going to my room to go find an outfit.

After I finished applying my light makeup I made my way downstairs seeing father whisper-yelling in our native tongue to someone on the phone. He hangs up on them with his jaw clenched but when he looks up his expression softens.

"Where's your sister?" he questions rather sternly.

"She'll be down here soon," I say snapping my eyes towards him.

"Tell her to hurry up I'll be in the car."

...

The car ride is tense, to say the least. It was quiet and no one dared to say anything first knowing it would only result in an argument.

I put on Jhene aiko to ease the silence. I've never liked it being quiet but with pa you get used to it. He's always so secretive, keeping his work life from us especially when my mother died.

We arrive at a fancy restaurant and papà opens me and my sisters doors letting us out. He may be insufferable but he still loves us with his whole heart. He just doesn't go about it well.

The first thing I realize is the restaurant is huge. It's also completely empty. Maya has immersed herself in her phone typing away, so I look to father in confusion. He only motions for us to move forward to our table with a small gesture. His face is void of emotion almost as if hes dead inside, it unsettles me as it reminds me of mom last days in bed, slowly dying.

Our booth has 3 men sitting in it. The one closest to me looked me up and down with an unreadable expression that turned into disgust in under two seconds.

I purse my lips at this and climb into our side of the booth after father and Maya shortly after me.

The same man kept staring at me with his dark eyes. He's very attractive. His dark curly hair that contrast with his pale skin and pink plump lips. He's wearing an all black suit and it has my palms sweating under the intensity of his gaze.

"You're late," the one in the middle says. He's staring at my father like he wants to kill him. Well they all are.

"My daughters were taking their time Mr. Rossi."

At the mention of his name I don't miss how he clenched his fists by the table but unclenched them as the guy beside him, near pa said something incoherently in his ear.

Mr Rossi only nods at what he says.

"Why are we here?" My sisters voice pipes up in the most annoyance directing it at father who doesn't even look at her. Instead keeping his eyes on the three men.

But the other three men do.

"Oh did your papà not tell you? One of you is going to be married to my son," he says patting the guy to his rights shoulder whose eyes are now trained on me once again.

I start laughing quietly to myself. Maya visibly stiffens beside me at what he just said.

"Papà this is a joke right?" I say reaching for his hand and he flinches away. "Papa?"

"No it's not a joke Camilla," he snaps at me. "Prestar atención," he says ripping his eyes from me to stare at Mr. Rossi. (Pay attention)

"Well ladies, my son will marry whichever one your father choos-" My sister slams her hands on the table interrupting Rossi's statement and he thins his lips glaring at her.

"I think the fuck not."

"Maya sit down I have already chosen," Pa says grabbing her hand which she snatches away from him.

"Papà you didn't," I look to him silently pleading with my eyes. This wasn't the plan. This can't happen.

"He did," The son speaks his voice deep and raspy and his accent thick, "This will happen," he states.

Papà looks at me sympathetically with his eyebrows furrowed. He grabs my hands squeezing it before speaking the words I never thought he would say.

"Camilla, Camilla will be your wife."
