Duckburg is a nice place to live. I should know I grew up there. But for the first time my eyes saw it through a different perspective once I had my own apartment. A woman owns a house at the end of the city and rented the second floor. At first, I thought I was lucky until I realized why no one wanted to move in. It was the neighbor she has trouble with. She assured me that the guy is a very nice man, but his inventions sure caused a lot of trouble occasionally. It was a mystery how they managed to survive with him around.
To be a good neighbor myself I made some home-made apple pie and went over to him. From the outside it was messy place. The garden was filled with junk and gadgets. The house was also filled with all sorts of stuff that I couldn't even tell what they are made for. Surprisingly the door was wide open, but I preferred to knock first before entering.
"Come in" said a man in a cheerful voice.
Looking around I spotted him working on something at his workbench. He greeted me without looking. His beak widens to a smile as he noticed me the minute he turned around, "...oh have we met before?"
"Not in person. I heard about you, the inventor of Duckburg."
"so, what can I do for you?" he got all nervous as I handed him the pie.
"I made this for you as we will be neighbors from now on."
"Neighbors?" I pointed in the direction the house was getting a chuckle from him, "marvelous. I didn't know I have a new neighbor". He looked around curiously, "Well I didn't have any time to get you something...but I am sure I find something special."
"No need I didn't want to stop you from your work."
I left him holding the pie in his hands as his eyes followed me home. He went over the window to continue his stare. Gyro Gearloose didn't expect to have a new neighbor and couldn't wait to make her the best neighbor gift ever.
Through the night I realized what the woman meant. The inventor was making so much noise it was difficult to fall asleep. So, it was no purpose to be tired at work all day.
Gyro on the other hand was wide awake beside the lack of sleep. His present was supposed to be small but turned out to be massive. A little too big to build it inside but he didn't want to spoil the surprise.
He had an idea.
Scrooge told him not to make a furniture removed ray again, he didn't say anything about using it for his own personal space. Afterall it was lying around collecting dust and beside that he promised little helper that the house will be cleaner this time around.
During that time, I wasn't aware of the surprise I will get as I stepped on the doorstep. Reaching for my keys I opened the door and...
...it wont open further.
Something is blocking the way. Pushing harder I looked inside seeing a massive fridge in the way. It was on my list to ask about that later but now I was hungry and just wanted to have a nice and relaxing night. That is if I even get to my kitchen. The corridor was filled with books although I know that I don't have so many. At least I didn't take them out of the boxes. In the kitchen stood bags of rubbish, tools big and small and even a TV on top of the oven. My mind thought about a burglar but in this case none of those stuff was mine to begin with.
Where are they all coming from?
Meanwhile Gyros house was cleared of furniture and all other belongings he had. The chouse was spotless of dirt feeling relieved and full of joy just like his little helper. Before he decided to get his furniture back, the floor had to dry first. In the meantime, he took a bath.
Just like me.
The bathroom was the only place cleared of stranger's stuff. Afterwards I sat in my bed and watched some TV. Since the living room was messed up, I had no choice. Tomorrow Ill will find out who these things belong to so they can get them back. Plus, they must explain this situation. Not even one day in a new home and strange things happen.
Gyro lost track of time as he relaxes inside the bathtub. Little helper wouldn't be bothered by this but was devastated to see the bathroom in a mess. The inventor apologized and promised that this will be done tomorrow. Little helper knew that this was normally a promise Gyro will forget once another idea for an invention comes to mind. The little robot grabbed the gadget and sprayed the bathroom with the stuff needed to remove the furniture. Gyro coughed at the smell, „What is that...Little helper...don't!"
The robot aimed for all the furniture he can see...including the bathtub...
...and Gyro.
You can imagine how I looked seeing the inventor in his tub...standing beside my bed.
Gyro was deeply embarrassed and wanted to drown in the water. I just looked at him for a minute without a sound. Then I laughed, "Need a towel?"
"...yes...please..."
Walking over the mattress I left the bedroom. A few more furniture arrived blocking the way. I had no chance to get to the towels. Only option left was a bathrobe. Gyro Gearloose had a lot of explaining to do admitting that the furniture is all his. He promised to get them all tomorrow and left my apartment.
He was still embarrassed by this tightening the robe, "I am very sorry what happened."
I felt sorry that I could not find a larger bathrobe for him, "Just promise me that this won't happen again."
"I promise I won't use it again. I just needed some space."
"What for?"
He got all quiet. I nudged his side, "What a weird way to get to know your neighbor, right?"
Gyro nodded blushing. He wanted to make a good impression and now...it was all for nothing, "My gift is ruined." I asked what he meant as he whined "The gift for you. I to give you the best give in the world and now I messed everything up."
"What was the gift supposed to be?"
The inventor looked away sad, "A multi-functional bathtub, with a whirlpool, shower, sauna and a build in massage chair."
My eyes widened "Talking about some gift. Woah that sounds cool."
He nodded in approval.
I grabbed his hand and held him close, "But you don't have to get me anything Gyro..." I gave him a kiss on his beak, "...having you as a neighbor is the best gift of them all."
