Me

It was my second visit to the graveyard. I stared at the tombstones in front of me. This time, I could not afford to buy flowers. Everything was on a tight budget; sometimes I was eating only one time a day, saving money for the future days in need.

I saw the boy again.

He was sitting in a corner on the dirty floor, leaning against a tree. After visiting my parents, I walked to where he was and leaned on a tree opposite him.

"Here again?" I asked. He hummed; I noticed his tear-stained face. I couldn't blame him because, after all, I knew how he felt.

"Who passed away in your family?" he asked, gazing into blank space.

"My parents, last week. You?"

"My mother," he paused, "the only one who cared about me."

"What about your father?" I asked, but almost regretted it. It might have been too personal.

"Some people just... vanish sometimes. And he was one of them."

I drew random shapes on the soil with my fingers. "It hurts when people you know, become people you don't, doesn't it?"

He smiled weakly.

"What's your name?"

"Nari."

"I'm Shinyu."
